Who has removed a power steering pump pulley? How the f did you do it?

Rented a pulley puller and brad spent 20 minutes sweating his ass off in the Arby's parking lot in Corbin, KY doing it. Good thing I bought him beer!

I removed my power steering pump pulley by buying a new one for like $15 when I got the new pump. Hell with dealing with that mess.

I broke a pulley using a pulley puller, I'm thinking of using a lot of heat, or should I freeze it? I'm thinking freeze.

I'm really going to piss off T. :D

You want the shaft to get smaller and the hole in the pulley to get smaller, so you would think cold would do the trick.

But you might have a corrosion issue between the shaft and the pulley, in which case you want some heat to break it up.

I would heat it up and then freeze it.

I had to stick mine in the vice and crank on it. Once it popped it came right off.

Trying not to make this funny but it is really hard not too

Pop the whole thing in the freezer. Then when you pull it out after a couple hours (a day) only heat the pulley, trying to keep the shaft cool.

Ugg..... have to go to Atlanta tomorrow. Finally the weather gets decent here and I have to go somewhere hot, sweaty and full of southerners.....

What is it with people selling their XJ's? Another midwest XJ is up for sale. At least the aftermarket for XJ's is still going strong.

I toll my pump off and took it to a local shop after breaking it, they took the old one off and put a new one on for 5 bucks.

On another note, I love swapping parts with other guys, trussed 30 housing is gonna go in my Heep this winter.

For the most part, I like the people in the south more then people from my home town. Having been in Tuscaloosa and New Orleans a total of five times during week long periods, they are some of the nicest people I ever met.

my ps pulley popped off fairly easily...then i broke the ps reservoir off that i was supposed to re-use. then i had to ride 2 miles on melissas bike to the parts store through a scary ghetto in chicago at 1am to go to the all night parts store to get the one i should have bought in the first place...we only had one vehicle at that time and melissa had to go to work in the morning. i've never peddled my fat ass on a bike so fast in my life...

it was just one of my many interesting stories about working on my jeep in the apartment parking lot when we were living in chicago...not as funny as the drunk homeless man who passed out next to me while mumbling a conversation and eating chicken he found in the garbage can...but close

Seriously, was the 11mm socket and wrench made specifically for Snappers? I don't recall using an 11mm on anything but this Snapper uses them for everything. Got a whole $27 and some elbow grease in it and it runs like a top and cuts great. I love free stuff!

What kind of puller were you using?

The best results I've had were using a crescent shaped clip that goes around the pulley right at the shaft with a piloted style bolt for pressure on the shaft.

The 3-piece clamps seem to be junk.
