Important

Maybe "Big Dog" is about the size of something ;)

He must have given them some McLovin. :D

Took the Ranger out for a run with Susie and the dog. All of us had fun, Ranger was mudded up good, rained a little but the roof and windshield payed for themselves.

Gotta get this thing out to the Badlands.

Ok need everyone's opinion on my next project. I'm planning on building my son a 4wd little offroad buggy. I know what axles i'm gonna run and what the chassis is going to look like but can't figure out the motor, tranny, and transfer. I want it to have enough power to turn the tires but not to much power for my son. What would you guys think would be a good drivetrain to put in this buggy?

Just thinking here but if I ran a small little motor in it like a garden tractor motor and tied that to a tranny and transfer case. With all the gear reduction in the tranny, transfer, and axles, wouldn't that small motor be able to turn the tires with ease? I would think it would but could be wrong.

Spent a good part of my weekend either in a Rzr 900, a new Arctic Cat Wildcat or following them around. Fun toys. I would never spend the ridiculous price they want for one, nor would I like to deal with the reliability issues but man. We went 85 miles one day over very rough two track roads and the ability to go fast over rough stuff is beyond amazing with these things.

You ever look at the honda civic power buggys? They run the motor sideways and make driveshafts where the axles go. The most basic civic motor is 90ish hp and as he grows you can bolt up bigger and better motors/transmissions.

What axles you using? I am going with either samurai or narrow track CJ axles. And hopefully a older honda fourtrax engine/trans, with room to put in a fwd 4 cylinder set up when the boys are older.

Use a vanguard motor...the v twin models are capable of a lot of power. The output shaft is the same size on most of them so you could start small and upgrade when he gets older. I think they make a 35 that can be modded pretty heavily depending on what you want to do with it

I was planning on using Jeep axles or as narrow as I can get. I have looked at the Honda powered buggy but the wiring part of it is not appealing to me. I have also thought about the quad motor. Hope that would be enough motor.

I bet a free dana 35 would hold up fine in a kid buggy type vehicle even with giant tires on it. In fact I have a pile of parts collected for just such a project... except it's a backyard redneck ken-buggy not a kid buggy.

This is what I get for not hanging around here much... Missed the chance to buy Rev's Jeep. Who bought it? Not like I'd have the money. It is the chance that matters...

Yea it was me... I can still give you the chance if you want :)

It's a very cool rig, initially I wanted to keep it and sell mine but figured I should take a week and not make any sudden decisions. Took it in to town a few times and it's fun to drive around. Then reality set in... I already have a Jeep that I like; it's handy to have a backseat. It's nice to have a solid roof so I can just leave it outside all the time. I have a lot of money (to me) tied up between my Jeep and Rev's at the moment and one of them needs to go.

So having said all that, I'm starting to part it out. I don't really need any parts from it and I've had some interest in parts already, so I'll be making a thread once I've got things more organized.

Buy a samurai, do a spring over conversion, add 31's and you've got a mini offroader. They have like 64 hp.

That's a little bigger than what I was wanting to build. I'm looking to build something like that little buggy we seen up at twisted trails. Something kinda small.

How much you looking to get for them?

150 for the pair to a red member. 44a is disc brake too. The 30 doesn't have calipers or rotors though.

Poor mans side by side.
