Important

Just a WONDERFUL commute to work this morning, almost twice as long as it normally takes, and most of the delay was outside the metro area. And worse weather is on the way.

The boss just said something about a jack-knifed semi-trailer on the highway south of the metro. That'd explain the delay, probably 8-10 miles long.

I left the house at 29 degrees, it's a couple of degrees warmer in the Twin Cities, the roads are much better in the metro. Unfortunately, it looks like another 4+ inches of sludge are predicted by tomorrow morning.

I picked this up Mon. night.

New to you (old to everyone else) Jeep pic.

JIM.
I started looking at it and I was like:

That's a nice rig... Hey, Meganne. Gym Class got a new XJ. It's got a decent lift, looks like 33s, big front....sliders....rear quar....*notices JCR banner* Oh, I think it's Hale's rig. *Scrolls down* Yep!

Stupid semi truck drivers. They should ban them from the highways.
Not saying that at all.....they've got better traction in this conditions than the cagers do. And given the rampant stupidity on the roads, it wouldn't surprise me in the least that he wasn't the cause.

LOL. I knew you weren't saying that. It's just my own little joke whenever I hear of a truck wreck. You KNOW there were people stuck in that jam thinking exactly that though.

Oh, undoubtedly.... and those idiots are probably the cause.

On the way home last night (same stretch of road...) I was waiting for a tanker to just punt a mini-van right off into the toolies. Idiot in the mini-van couldn't keep a steady speed to save their soul. The tanker (big one, 50' trailer) was trying to keep his speed steady, and there's a couple of short grades where he knows he's going to have problems. I'd been watching the mini-van as I caught up over a couple of miles and knew he wasn't paying attention. I signaled for a lane change, and swung out in the hammer lane (4 lane divided boulevard, 65 mph speed limit,) to pass the tanker, the mini-van and a sedan that was still in front of the mess. The tanker signaled, and followed me....... and the idiot in the mini-van swung out right in front of the tanker. I thought for sure the tanker was going to hit him.

ban all high capacity vehicles! anything bigger than a 10 passenger van. nobody needs anything bigger than a Prius anyway.

I go through that a hundred times a day. I bet Dan does too. I'm glad I have an 80mph truck. It gets me out of those situations....sometimes.
I really do feel sorry for the OTR drivers that are governed down. I know that when you're running a fleet, even a 0.1 mpg increase means a lot of money, but it can really put them in a bad situation.

Edit: I was BSing with a driver at the truck stop a year ago. If he wasn't getting called by his traffic management department (WHY THE HELL ARE YOU LATE....) he was getting called by fuel management (SLOW THE HELL DOWN.)

agree, I could use a few days off

I have a 63 mph truck, and I deal with this even with other big trucks. It seems that everybody wants to drive 62 1/2 mph and nobody has cruise control

...we also have a new company policy that we cannot use cell phones in the truck even with Bluetooth, I will be putting in my resignation the moment they put a dash cam facing the driver

This is complete BS but unfortunately more and more companies are going to this. Hell, my dispatcher still sends me text messages.

PTI propane trucks have cameras facing the driver. It isn't on all the time but if the computer senses any weird movement with the truck it will start recording. F that! I'm worried all that is going to become mandatory for big trucks, especially haz-mat. I will be looking for a whole new industry to work in if that happens.

Just like anything else..... the conscientious folks who pay attention and know what's going on end up getting penalized for the other idiots.

Ol' Bill had it right. Kill all the lawyers.

I'm hoping to have a couple good days off...

Unfortunately I'm working part time a majority of it...

mac 'pays for the fun' gyvr
