Important

So rockauto was wrong.. lol
I was hoping I could just steal one out of my 97 trans sitting at my brothers.

Im not positive thats the problem, but its definitely the first thing that comes to mind.

have you tested the tps? aren't they adjustable on an 89? that would be my first test, but if you've done that...then it could be a solenoid

No, just started today and I had to work.
It happens after sitting for a while. Did it this morning and today when I left work. After the first shift it is fine, which is really pointing me towards a sticky/"lazy" solenoid. I have lockout switches too, So I need to check that wiring for shorts.

Already check the fluid level and quality? Adjust your TV cable?

I would try and fit them in anyways, the 95+ ones may be an improved design. I can't tell you for sure if they will fit though, measure everything carefully before installing.

As a side note, I learned something by looking that up, I figured it would be a 95-/96+ (OBDI to OBDII), 96-/97+ (old body style vs new body style, old TCU vs new TCU) or 97-/98+ (major TCU changes and DTC improvements) thing not a 94- vs 95+ split.

Checked the fluid a couple weeks ago, was clean and full. Didnt do it today since I got out of work at dark.
Throttle valve is locked open and has been for 6 months with no problems. The supra guys do it pretty often:

Final note, the easiest way of locking the kick down full open is to cut the cable(with valve body and transmission fully together) and then lock it with a cable lock or other vising device, unless you want to build a wedge to put in when the valve body is out, all a matter of preference.

I have an external cooler, dont use the radiator.

Drove it 350 miles sat/sun with no problems...

Another thing I noticed, with the shifter in 3rd gear I couldnt force the TC to lockup with my switch. The light came on, which means I was getting power from the TCU 12v wire, but it wouldnt lock up.... Shifter back in drive and it would. Weird.

The more I think about it, I really need to look at my TCU wiring. Starting to sound like a short.

I will do some looking around tomorrow and maybe start a thread.

You should probably put a test light or voltmeter on the shift solenoid lines - if the light pattern changes and the trans stays in the same gear it's a solenoid or hydro issue, if the lights don't change it's an electrical issue.

Guys on speedfreaks.net post cl listings almost daily for niners for 1500 - 2500. I got my first one a few years ago for 2800 and the current one for 2000. Just got to be able to negotiate I guess.

And I got mine for dirty cheap too...but one that is only 100k miles and in good working order with no rust is worth at least 4k if not more...

mac 'just depends on what fixing they need' gyvr

Also depends on the area you are in. I'd pay easily $1K more fir a clean one from Az than I would one from the rust belt.

Unfortunately my dads came from Canada. It still has Celsius temp and weird oil pressure gauges.

Personally, I love the snow and unplowed parking lots.

If you are doing donuts in that lot, then you sir.....are an idiot.

At least it is not lifted so people will see a lifted vehicle doing dumb stuff.

You "should" know better.

nice....my dads 79 gray market porsche 911 was in metric....its cool but annoying at the same time

now the lack of emissions equip did make almost a 10hp difference from the american model

Agreed, that's the kind of shit that just gives us a bad image. a mod needs to delete that pic

It seems to me that messing around in an empty snow covered parking lot is how people learn what to do if their vehicle enters a skid. I've got no issue with this if the parking lot owner or Police don't.

I wish more people knew how to handle their vehicle in adverse weather.

I will wish that all my might when the Beltline turns into an ice sheet. But as they say, "you can wish in one hand and ...."

Yah, I 'm an idiot too :D

I can actually say this helped me a lot when it came to driving in the stuff. This is my first rwd vehicle and the few times I have actually done this in practice, it has saved my skin on the road when it was crappy out.

Screw an empty lot I like a challenge so I "drift" in fully packed lots or down city street's.

Nothing like getting arrested wearing nothing but a blue speedo in the middle of January.

The guy that plows our lot at work builds a big pile at one of the corners. I decided to park the Jeep on such said pile one day. Someone called the cops, he came in & asked if anyone knew who's Jeep was on the snow pile? I said it was mine. He asked why I would do that? I said cause I can & it's our property. He just shook his head & left. Then the boss asked me to move my Jeep. hahahahahah
