Important

Got out to the range yesterday with a buddy of mine. Had a pretty good time. I'm not claiming to be a marksman, but this is more what groups should look like.

They're all intended groups around the paper to keep from buying a bunch of targets. Other than a couple flyers, I'm very pleased with my shooting. Especially since it had been so long since I had been on a pistol range and actually got to do some work. The laser on the .380 requires a little tuning and I forgot my Allen wrenches. Good enough to do the job though.

I actually participated in a rim fire match this morning, I only fully completed one stage. The 3.5" barrel on the P22 made the match harder. Wish i would have bought a Ruger MK II or III now. Nice thing about those Rugers is that you can mount a optic on top because it doesn't have a full slide on top. Still don't know if I will keep on shooting the rim fire matched with the P22. I will be buying a Ruger 10/22 this winter. A weaver style rail, red dot optic and three or four more bx 25 magazines and I should have a nice rim fire match gun.

found out some news a couple days ago. i was keeping it on the hush because we wanted to tell our families in person before the net got its hands on it. although with all your baby pics and talk it was hard.

the wife and i are now expecting our first child!!!

So how'd you do? I've never been to nor watched a match, so I have no idea how they go. Don't know what stages are or anything else for that matter.

Josh, you should look into the shawno area for shooring sports. My dad used to be the state director for WI for handgun silhouette (ihmsa). There was a really nice club that had a lot of events up that way.
I used to shoot smallbore rifles competitavely and shot a lot of matches in depere. Its out there, just not publicised very well..

I fired NRA indoor 50' rimfire bullseye while I was still living in MI (Petoskey.) 3 courses of fire, IIRC, 10 rounds in 10 minutes, 2 stages of 5 shots in 20 seconds, and 2 stages of 5 shots in 10 seconds, total of 300 points max. One of the guys I shot with had a 292 average (Hammerli 280.)

Rimfire sillhouette is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. There's something really satisfying about the watching the target push straight back, then hearing the <TINK>. My neighbor invited me out a couple of years ago to the gun club he belongs to for an informal club competition. Turns out that only I and 1 club member were in the optical sight semi-automatic class, I shot clean on the second string, and was asked to join!

I've got a Ruger MK-II Government slabside with a Clark trigger set, Herrett National stocks and Tasco PDP2 red dot. It's far more accurate than I am.

Terrehautian, if you're serious about competitive shooting, start looking at target grade ammo, instead of the common CCI. It *WILL* make a difference in your scores.

I found out tonight that everyone has a more perfect truck than mine to make the trip to California...

mac 'at this point I'm ****ing flying' gyvr

Terrible, but I expected that. Those steel targets get smaller and smaller the farther you get out. :laugh3:

We had some of the silhouette targets in one stage. Dueling trees in another. Pipes and round targets in another. Angle iron, round targets and square targets in another. I was unable to complete all those stages. One stage had 42 bowling pins and 7 4x4 wood blocks. The way they had them set up, I barely was able to finish those in the two minute limit.

I was using federal bulk pack (or what was left of it). I had some feed issue, I don't know if it was the bulk pack or the gun still being somewhat new. I have only put 500-600 rounds down it now with 1/2 of that being yesterday. The issue i had was that my P22 is a 3.5" barrel. It is fun to shoot at the range for fun, but for this match, it is lacking length. Others where shooting 5 to 7" long barrels. I plan on getting a ruger 10/22 this next winter. Then getting a Weaver style rail and get a red dot on top. Then 4-5 BX-25 magazines I should be good for this type of match. Had I known about these matches when buying my P22, I probably would have gotten a Ruger MKII or MKIII. They don't have a full sliding slide on top and I could put a red dot on top of it and the barrel is longer. I have shot a S&W 15-22 during these matches and did descent.

My Mk-II had a problem with rounds failing to extract from the chamber when it was new, less than 1 in 50 or so. I polished the chamber just a bit, and it's been flawless since. What sort of feed issue, fail to strip from the clip, failure to chamber, failure to extract?

I did put 10 rounds through a Hammerli 280 while I was shooting competition. Ohmygawd...I had to hand it back, no way could I afford it. It was sheer pleasure to shoot, it made my Mk-II look like a zip gun.

What? Did this chapter change religions with the IC? I thought we were the ones supposed to be piping out babies like no other. :D

Congrats man. Having kids was the best life changing decision I ever made.

thanks guys. we are excited but scared as hell at the same time. we decided a couple months ago not to "try" for a kid but to stop "preventing" assumed it may take a lil bit. well....nope, i did the math and found out it was the 1st unprevented time. yikes.

due date is may 25th we are both thinking that's a little early. doc says shes 8 weeks along but we are thinking shes about 6 weeks at the most. so im saying early june, which we are hoping for because i have always said i hope my kids bday is in the summer. having a bunch of rug-rats running around your backyard that has a pool in it is easier than your living room.

either way thats the least of our worries. for now i have to look out for preggers(shes not diggin that name)
