Important

here are some pics from the weekend...they are all cell pics, but you'll get the idea. the shows were pretty good, all very pleasant bands to deal with which makes my life easier. i actually had to run monitors for all the bands, but at least it passes the time quicker.

the donnas were pretty rocking...nice gals too. the lead singer was nice enough to stop by the next day at breakfast to tell me that they were super happy with the show. nothing like a bunch of ladies rocking hard

as i said before donnie dokken was super mellow and cool. also pretty drunk, but thats cool. his voice actually sounded pretty good for his age. i can cue up channels on the board and listen to them through a speaker thats pointed right at me on the floor and every time i cued up his voice he was spot on.

big head todd was actually pretty good too...also a bunch of nice guys. very tight too. i guess i didn't remember how many songs they had on the radio.

and this s*%t pisses me off...no matter how many times you tell stage hands how to do things, they will still do it wrong. this is what happens when you turn a grade 9 bolt inside an aluminum bolt hole. the threads fill will aluminum and jams the nut. it can not only cause a nut to get stuck, it can also cause a weak spot in a rig...and anyone who saw the news this weekend also saw that another stage collapsed in toronto during a setup for a radiohead concert. breaking a grade 9 bolt takes a REALLY long cheater bar and 4 people..

Went to the range with my dad, mom and brother on Friday. Did some shooting with a nice list. .380, 9mm, .40 and .243. Went out again today with Meganne's dad and sister from Madison. Took out the same as Friday but added a .22 rifle and M91/30. Good times.

Going to the range Wednesday or Thursday with my dad.

Hey look, they're turning left!

Look, they're turning left again!

Hey look, they're turning left again!

...!!!

:D

I like cars that go left, left, left, left, etc. but only when they are on a dirt track with the rear of the car sliding sideways (non wing spring cars).

Just saw on the news that the side of the hotel in Attica got ripped off during a storm.

Man, that is crazy.

I will be finishing up on my motor swap this week, is there anything I should look out for when swapping a 97 4.0 into a 2000? I see the 2000 motor is coil on plug style and no distributor, any concerns when swapping parts from the 2000 to the 97?

Make an L-bracket that utilizes the bolts for the valve cover to hold the coil pack as the 97 block has no holes for the mounting bolts. Don't forget the block off plate for the dizzy. That's all I can think of.

I guess I don't get the mental picture. Aluminum scafolding with Grade 9 Bolts going though it? I am envisioning hollow aluminum tubes with no hole sleeves (that's how you'd pick up shavings, right?). Looking at the picture, the nut is crooked on the threads, like it is just a smidge too large for the bolt (like Metric VS SAE issue).

Your exhaust ports are not going to line up too well unless you do something about it.

Like jeepman said, gotta mount the coil pack - be extra careful about the hole that is used as a ground by the pack.

So what is a solution to the exhaust ports not lining up? What is different between the 97 and 2000 exhaust? Thanks for the help!

aluminum truss is used to build our roofs/overhead rigs. the truss is in 8-10 foot sections and is bolted together on each end with 4 grade 9 bolts. truss bolts are a universal size and are always a standard size so no matter whos bolts/nuts you are using they will work. these bolts always travel with the roof, so they are not mixed/matched with the wrong nuts. basically if you look in the picture here:

http://xfstar.en.made-in-china.com/product/MegnmjKbrBVq/China-Aluminum-Truss.html

you can see the 4 bolt holes. the 2 pieces butt together and the bolt goes through the holes. because the truss is long and decks aren't always perfectly even, when the bolts are pushed through the 2 pieces of truss and they arent lined up perfectly, the bolt will dig into the truss when you turn the bolt and obviously a grade 9 bolt will dig hard into the aluminum. the threads fill with aluminum and you won't notice it when you thread it on, but at that point you are probably already cross threaded (thus the crooked bolt). then when you back it out, the threads lock up and you're done for. that and we catch stagehands pounding bolts through the 2 pieces of truss if they aren't lined up perfectly, which can also cause the same issue.

As much as I'd like to say figure out why it's not fitting, don't brute force it, on stage jobs like this, you may just not have that luxury. Things are going to get bent, knocked around, and just generally abused. By the end of a tour, it's just not going to work as well is did at the opener.

Still, if the industry doesn't step up and figure out how to prevent these "accidents," the gummint will, and nobody will be happy then.

yep...actually the biggest problem is that there are always going to be new stagehands on jobs who don't know what they are doing. we instruct them to line the truss up properly before they bolt it together, but they don't always listen. on the load in there were 15 hands and 6 of us. we direct traffic and keep people working (otherwise a roof/stage that size cant go up in 6-8 hours) so we don't have time to go around and inspect every bolt/connection. we always go around and check for tightness, but thats about all we have time for. we don't have time to back every bolt out (there are literally hundreds of bolts in every rig) to check the threads. on this rig, there were 2 bolts that did this. that won't even be close to bringing a rig down, but having just 1 weak point in a rig is 1 to many. i caught one stage hand spinning a bolt in the hole when we were loading out, and i stopped him and camly reminded him not to turn the bolt. he snapped back at me and said "yeah i've already done about 100 of these, i know." i just gave him a friendly pat on the back and said "well you were just doing it wrong and thats why i said it." about 1 min later our first bolt got stuck and we had to use 4 people to break it. i looked right at him and said "guys, thats why we tell you not to spin the bolt." he nodded...and i saw him finally get it. he was just a young buck, so i guess i'll give hime the benefit of the doubt.

A week from Friday, I'm going to see Heart and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts at an outdoor venue. I'm pretty sure that everything is just going to be temporary, not even a pavilion. I'll see if I can get some pics of the staging before the show starts.

On a completely unrelated note, Penn & Teller put on a good show on Friday night, very entertaining, well orchestrated and staged. They're master showmen.

Going to see Korn on Wednesday night.

At a bar.

Where there is A/C.

We have reserved seats in the handicap area for the wife to not get pushed around.

The Doctor ok'd this, said it might piss the baby off but won't harm.
