generators? ya, they are dope. my father has the 3k. its about as loud as a fridge. a little louder at full power.

now you can sit around and drink beer with no pants on and not get yelled at

dude... im in college. the woman i mingle with still like when i do that kind of thing.

If you've got an extra $3k laying around. They are nice for sure, but pricey.

They are nice and quiet, but some campgrounds do not allow any generators past 10pm. I bough two deep cycle batteries and a cheaper generator and one small power inverter. I only needed electricity to run my stupid sleep apnea mask. Worked great. I never had to run the generator as my solar charger from my boat kept the deep cycles charged and they worked from 11PM-6AM.

The radio stations that are in the same building as my work have two of the Honda ones for the transmitters if the power goes out of a long time. Now the building itself does not have a generator, we lose electricity, we are done (new building will have a generator). The transmitter site for my tv station got a nice big generator for free that will provide full power to everything for three days before needing fuel.


Since I just got back from camping and there was talk of camping on here earlier. After walking through the campground, I had an idea for a cheap camper (also got it from the guy who slept in a u haul trailer at WF). I want to get a 5x10 cargo trailer, put a few rv windows in and possible a spot for a window a/c unit and insulate it and use that as a camper until the day I can afford a real camper and tow rig.

Was on a trail ride at the Pipeline in the Nicolet NF...

Of the 13 miles the trail is listed as, 2.5 to 3 miles are actually not closed off, and of those 2.5 to 3 miles, there are closures between sections that make it useless. We got 1/2 way up the trail, and the trail was locked and gated (no alternative route or bypass). We needed to backtrack all the way to the nearest town to pick up a different Forest Road to take us up to Thunder Mountain.

$1000 for a generator does not sound bad....I have been thinking about he Yamaha at about that.....but it is only 2KW. You get what you pay for, pay a little more and keep them quiet. Then again, this is not exactly a cheap hobby, generators, trailers, tow rigs, etc... all add up.

I have about a thousand dollars into my generator project so far.

$475 15kw 240v splitphase generator head on ebay
$3xx 100 amp auto transfer switch
$free old 4.0L out of my MJ, plus full wiring harness and ECU from a 94 that a friend donated from a parts rig he parted out in my yard
still need to buy beer to convince a friend of mine to turn me a crankshaft adapter and mill an AW4 bellhousing to genny head housing adapter plate.
Also still need to find my spare XJ fuel tank+pump and assorted hardware I am sure I am missing, plus some stuff to weld up a mounting stand for it.

It sure won't win any efficiency or quietness awards but it will run all the critical stuff in the house, on fuel I can steal out of the jeeps if needed, and takes spare parts I can steal off the jeeps, or if the jeeps don't run, can steal off the generator.

It won't be very portable either that's for sure.

You, I have a motorcycle, a boat, and a camper, I work harder at having fun than I do at my job....
Spent the weekend at the Rockford airshow in the camper, I want to take tomorrow off to rest up but I have a bunch of subs lined up and I can't.
I took a nap afterwards so the traffic died down. I heard there was 150,000 people there today.

Oh after five years of living here and backing my fifth wheel up along side the garage I fianaly tore the gutters off of the garage, I figure this is the last time I will park it here since my lot now has electricity.

1200 miles round trip with the truck and trailer to Rausch Creek hauling Rosco's buggy.

Average of just over 8 mpg at 70mph.

Hauled four people in the truck and slept 8 for three nights.

I drove the 10 hours there and back.

My truck turned 122k on the way home and pulled like a champ up the hills in PA, holding the speed limit or more.

I did acquire a check engine light on the way out. I haven't pulled the code yet.
