I didn't buy anything thing at the auction.

One was a 95 4 door 4.0 auto with 90k. It had a bit of rocker rust and a bit of floorboard rust. It also had a lot of wires going everywhere and was probably an electrical nightmare (was a fire dept truck), and there was a leak from somewhere underneath (rear main? I couldn't pin it down in the parking lot). There was an auction charge of $270 on a purchase of 1500 to 2000. My price range was up to 2k. I bailed on this one at $1800. It sold at $1850. There are better deals out there in my opinion.

The other was a 96 2dr 4.0 auto with 80k. It had a bit less of rocker rust and a bit less of floor board rot. It was a water dept truck that didn't look at used up as the fire truck. It had more leaks under it, the rear main, tranny pan, and tcase, also showed to have water in the diff on a recent service (not changed since it was auction bound), I never bid on it because it was at $2k before I turned around, sold for $2700, I never imagined it would go that high.

I am thinking that I may make these public auctions somewhat of a hobby if I have time. Especially in the summer. I want to buy something I can flip and maybe flip about 6 a year and see if I can really make some extra $$...really tho...I probably won't go to another one...it was kind of fun tho, definatley a learning experience and some cars go really cheap. The old impala squad cars (02 to 05 - 80 to 120k) were going for $1500 if it had a plastic seat and $2500 if it had a regular seat...I'll see them forsale for 3 or 4k.

I love auctions...mainly farm equipment auctions...I have very rarely been brunt on a purchase and have always been able to recoup at least my initial purchase price. I have a scrap man on speed dial so it pays to just buy junk sometimes :D
 
Farm & estate auctions can be funny things. Some people get caught up and spend way too much. My brother was looking for a specific rough terrain forklift, and watched a very well used up model go for about 90% of the price of a brand new one.

Gotta watch that, the state allows up to 5 or 6 (can't remember) before you have to get a dealer license.

If I didn't know how hard old squad cars are ran, that would sound like a good deal.

Its 12 btw, My buddy asked. He's 25 and is pushing 60+ cars he's owned! :eek:
 
if you buy them private party sale you can always not fill out your name etc on the title and hopscotch it. Not legal because the state doesn't get their pound of flesh, but I see it happen all the time.

If I keep at my rate, I might be able to catch up with him.

I really miss going to auctions! Got to drive lots of really cool stuff...of course the first thing I "bought" was a WJ.

Go figure. GC's are for girls. :D

GoSlowGetStuck was wondering about this... I think he's up to... heck I don't know how many he's bought this year.

I say thumbs up to getting a dealers license.

I think its 10 in Indiana. I could becareful of that...especially if I'm happy with the truck I currently own...for now...

If you float a title that keeps you out of the 10...but...is it legal? i try to avoid that question...

Indiana is 12...at least it was a few years ago when I researched it due to the number of vehics I was selling out of my front yard. The dealer license also requires some sort of "storefront" or something like that.
