Important

I think I am buying a new 2011 Ram 1500 Quad Cab this week. We will see if the guys coming up from New Albany this week buy this thing, otherwise it will get traded in.

You're gonna tow it with a half ton?

Headed to new York...

My condolences Mac.

My second Cousin, who lived a block away from us when we grew up passed away this week and his funeral was yesterday. Played with his Kids, went to their weddings....

Then today, at the same church, my Nephew's son was Baptized.

It's an amazing, and never ending cycle.

nothing wrong with towing with a half ton. my tahoe is rated at half ton, and my dodge that I towed to winterfest last year is a half ton and I had a camper on it. half ton is payload, not tow rating

Only other thing to consider would be brakes. Most 3/4 and one ton's I had also had larger brakes than a half-ton. Power was never an issue.

I have to say that towing with my F-two fiddy is easier then when I used the Tahoe, but I never had any issues w/ the "ho" and it's short wheelbase-1/2 ton components. I usd my 18' car trailer and it had brakes on one axle and it did great...and honestly got better milage too! Now for mash down roll on power...the PSD is where it is at for me. I am toying with the notion of getting a newer truck to add to the fleet. been kind of scoping 08-09 F250's....but not ready to pull the trigger quite yet (I'm still broke :D)

600 miles in 9.5 hrs. One stop for fuel.

That's a good thing about interstates, should be long non-stop runs. Then again, IIRC, you're heading for the East Coast.

Safe travels, Mac.

My RAM and Tahoe have tranny coolers.

My trailer has brakes on both axles

The RAM has a 5.9 ltr and the 'ho has 5.3. neither are under powered

if you were pulling a two place trailer, or a tractor or something, then yes you would need a bigger truck . towing a jeep behind a half ton is okay.

FWIW, Dad's (okay, now my brother's...) 1999 Dodge 3500 has a 5.9l with a 5spd. I've personally scaled it with the gooseneck trailer at over 36,000 lbs. gross. Go power isn't the problem. Stopping is.

all you guys and you're wussy 1/2 vs 3/4 ton arguments.
I have brakes the size of 1/2 ton wheels and tires.

... and your trailer brakes work, it's loaded properly, has the right hitch for the load... the list goes on. It ain't one size fits all.
