Important

I'd tow with a half-ton again I think. Especially a newer one. But I really like diesels so that's what I prefer. Of course I don't mind driving an older (cheaper) vehicle and I don't daily drive it, so that helps.

Brendan, do you think you will regret giving up your diesel? I think you'll be just fine towing with the new Dodge and it might be nicer to drive on a daily basis, around town, and during the winter, but it seems like once most people go diesel they don't want to go back.

All things considered, I'd have a hard time giving up my 99 2500 CTD for a new 1500 gasser. Not the least of which is no monthly payment. It is starting to cost me a little in maintenance (fixing a rear wheel seal with a speedi-sleeve tonight, and should swap the steering box next weekend,) but it's a long way from either stranding me, or costing me me a fortune in maintenance yet.

Its been a while since I've been on here...
I have been in the process for looking for a new DD. Was looking for a F250 Diesel to use also as a tow vehicle, but after experiencing one for a weekend, I've decided it doesn't meet my standards... Now I'm thinking about a F150 since the 5.4 appears to still be a reliable motor...

On another note, I'm about a month away from getting the new axle and gears under the Heep... I'm getting excited!

all you guys and you're wussy 1/2 vs 3/4 ton arguments.
I have brakes the size of 1/2 ton wheels and tires.

XJ wheel/tire for scale

drum brakes that barely fit inside a 20 inch rim. I can (and have :scared:) lock up all 10 42s doing 40+ mph. I flat spotted the tires when some idiot merged into my lane without realizing they were going far slower than me. Not sure how they didn't see me, either.

I like wearing hearing protection while driving.
WHAT DID YOU SAY?!

I keep a box of disposable earplugs in the truck now.

Justin likened the inside of the weinerbox to the sound level inside a C-130.

Yours is all old school.

I've got 4 wheel discs.:greensmok:
Ive not locked up tires yet, but I can say that with a Jeep in the back it will still make you kiss the windshield if you stab at them hard.

I've been inside of a C-130. It's probably quieter.

Damn, Tyler has heated leather? I've got to look into that. Sometimes it gets into the 20's at my house.

Looking back, buying the F250 was probably a little excessive, considering I've towed the jeep 8 times in 4 years. But now that I'm a year away from paying it off, it's nice to have.

Now the only real question is whether or not I can fit the wide glide into the bed with the top on.

Towing with my truck is about the leather and satellite radio.

Heated Leather is sweet...and I take my sat radio everywhere...

Towing one rig with a 1/2 is fine as long as you are doing in properly...I've towed with a bunch of different rigs from small to big...

After driving this rental expedition, if the time comes to downsize, this could tow a single place and replace my truck and her car with one vehicle.

^all is true of my 'hoe.

I've been considering a tahoe/yukon as a dd for the wife and weekend jeep hauler. Easier to put kids in and wouldnt have to drive the heep to wheel.

Pay the bonnie off with taxes, then try to trade for one.

the heated leather is nice...especially with our winters...it is not a requirement in my vehicles..but sure is nice to have. Her new Malibu has it as well and I did not even know until my butt was getting hot without any help from Dan :D

The wife's car has heated seats.

They've been known to turn on by themselves in the summer. I can never figure out how that happens, but it sure pisses the wife off.

:D

As most know I'm in New York and we buried my Grandmother today. She was the one that used the tools around the house and remodeled the house, Grandpa was/is a pastor and never picked up a power tool in his life. Grandpa said take what you want out of the basement, garage and shed. Anything left he's going to sell in a garage sale for the church... I nearly filled up the back of the Expedition that we rented with some hand tools and quite a few power tools. All that I didn't have, that I wanted to but but never have bought. A Mitre saw, sander, saber saw, router (with several bits), drill doctor (new in box), and several other things...this is what I could get away from my dad :) his other siblings weren't there.

mac 'now to find a place for it all in my garage' gyvr

mac, sorry to hear about your grandma. I did the same thing when my gramps passed. Grandma said go and get what ever you want out of his shop, he always said I was his "wrench turner" of the grandkids. I still have everyone of those tools I received and clean them like an olympic gold medal when I am done using them...just like he did and they will last my days out too I bet ya!

My only regret with my older Tahoe was not getting a Suburban instead... not so much for the extra interior space, but I think having the extra length would have helped a lot when towing. I didn't ever see much difference in price between the two when I was looking around, but I went with the Tahoe because I wanted something that would fit in my garage.

That said, my Tahoe was the old body style, I'm sure a newer one and/or a weight distributing hitch would make a world of difference.
