Rev, I think that is his XJ.......my XJ odometer does not work correctly (or at all sometimes) which sucks b/c I was looking forward to rolling 300K on it....it stuck at 292K

Most everything here in the city for us is Impala. The county uses a mix of crown vics, impala's, and chargers. The state uses mostly crown vics.

The D/C in charge of buying cars says that we would all be driving tahoe's if he had his way but they are much more expensive. We buy the Impala's really cheap.

My new-to-me 7.3 Powerjoke goes to the diesel shop next week. It wouldn't start at all till I put a new low pressure oil pump in it, now it takes 10-15 seconds of cranking to start. Can't do much else to it without a scanner and I'm not going to throw parts at it, hopefully they can fix it up and give me a little more confidence in the thing.

That was one of my first thoughts, I checked it and I've got good voltage on both sides of it though. Since it was 80* or so out when it started happening I didn't think it would have too much effect but it was worth checking.

I had a list of stuff to rule out first, I changed the CPS even though it was good just because I know those are prone to fail at any time. The HPOP was draining down which made me suspect an oil problem, if I put oil in the reservoir on top it would start. Now after the new lube oil pump it'll always start (eventually) and the HPOP stays full even when off, I'm just wondering if I have another leak somewhere. Injector O-rings maybe? I'm at the point where $50 of O-rings could fix it, or I could be looking at something more expensive.

I almost bought an AutoEnginuity scanner, but $350-400 just to start diagnosing seemed kind of rich. I'm hoping that the shop treats me well, if they take care of me now then I may go back and have them install some goodies later. Or maybe try to make some money on selling it and go make a down payment on something a little newer (and 4x4).
 
For what you got into it you should be money ahead...at least you can kind of work on the fawker...

Very good point, I did a blue book (whatever that's worth) and guessed mileage at 300k and it's around $9k, and I'm $5k into it. And it is very garage friendly, my 7.3 Super Duty was so tall and so cramped in the engine bay, I never wanted to go near it.

I'd be up for doing the work myself, just don't have the equipment to know what I'm doing (yet).

yep, the DD XJ.

doing an exhaust header today. broke my P/S line in the removal process. No big suprise.

It really already has over 200k, I figure with the 31's on it it's about 7% off.

We are on our last batch of Crown Vics now. Chevy provided us with one of the new Tahoes to test for a few weeks and it was very nice. I was hoping they would have one of the PPV Caprice's ready too, but they didn't have any out yet. Our area has a mix of Vics and Chargers, but no Impalas (other than under cover and detectives).

Check the ipr orings, they can do that.

I always keep a spare PS pressure line on hand because of this... and I usually just unbolt the pump from the intake and set it aside instead of trying to disconnect it. Learned my lesson there.

Actually that reminds me, I used my spare when I put my durango box in, guess I should toss another on the rockauto order...
 
City PD here uses all Crown Vics for now. Not sure what direction they will go when the CV is discontinued. Most likely they will just keep running the CVs into the ground, half the fleet has 125k+.

The county has a mix of Impalas and CVs. This year they bought 6 2011 Chargers to phase out the CVs. This one now has a LED light bar and brushguard (not mine, I'm just a lowly Jail Officer):

The HPOP on my 6.0 was a $1300 fix. Lots of labor. Good thing it was under warranty.

If you crank it and squirt some starting fluid in the intake (a very small amount so you don't blow something up) and it starts, you know you have a HPOP issue.

The ECU (FICM, whatever) fires the injectors based on oil pressure readings on startup. The 6.0 needs to see 500 psi in that system when cranking. I don't know if 7.3 is similiar. The starting fluid catches in the combustion chamber and spins the engine faster, creating more oil pressure, then the injectors fire and the engine starts. If it starts like that, you need HPOP work.

Now the only thing left to do before Winterfest is rear tow point (and before I go wheeling again). Was near I 70 and heard truckers on channel 19. I need to find someone with a CB to test out the mic to make sure it works and get it tuned. The only thing that sucks it that it is a 23 channel. Best part is that the whole cb set up is completely removable and the only thing that remains is two small holes where the screws go into the center console.

I did the same thing. rookie year for me. few buddies are always talking about it. saying how they won such and such dollars. i though man if these guys could win money i know i can.
