my truck had a dead battery yesterday so after getting a new one last night it is going through the "relearn" process that GM's do for the idle etc...it sucks, wants to die each time you stop...it eventually learns again and will be fine, but sucks in the mean time. Next I am running down the cause of the "Reduced Engine Power" message I am randomly getting. The code says it is the sensor in the foot feed to the throttle, but all the boards I have read say that is a false code and it is like $500-700 to replace and it wont fix the prob. I am checking into different leads I have read up on. Like taking out the overly oiled K&N filter, the ground on the block, battery, wiring harness connections etc...fun shit I tell ya...

Hey if you pull the codes and let me know what they are I can probably narrow things down a bit for you. Would also need the year, make, model and what drivetrain it has. I work at what used to be a GM dealer. Atleast worth a shot if you havent come up with anything yet.

Heard about this through the grapevine. That dealer is real shady. Id say thats a pretty straight case of not getting what you paid for.

It's funny you say that, because in the snow it didn't want to make it up the trailer, the salesman had to get behind it and push it up the ramps.

Grab the VIN and do a Carfax. If you want to sink another $20 into it, or whatever it costs. I'm suspecting some sketchy stuff there.

(I haven't done this myself so I could be way wrong) It's not just removing the tailhousing, it's replacing it with the 4wd one so that you can bolt up the T-case. If you have the right tailhousing, it should be straightforward. I get the impression that it is a pain in the ass since most people just buy a trans with the correct output on it. I think someone in this thread recently with through converting 2wd to 4wd so maybe they can chime in? (Can't remember who)

Is the motor painted yellow, or just sprayed on top with a greenish-yellow paint? Because that's cash for clunkers material right there...

i just converted my 2dr from 2wd to 4wd. it was easy.


.....but i had a transfer case and transmission.



IMO it would cost too much to get a trans and tcase for it. also i think you mentioned that it had the earlier vacuum disco d30, i personally try to avoid those. and its not really worth it to change tailhousings and shafts on the trans. if you are just looking for parts, find another vehicle. also, i think its more than just replacing the tailhousing, i think you also have to change the shaft.

In their article on lift laws, it says spacer lifts are illegal in Michigan...Really???

This just in from a lawyer:

Yes they have to take it back because its a material misrepresentation on their part its not a binding contract because there was no contractual agreement. You can sue them for fraud.

I asked how I should go about talking to the General Manager tomorrow:

Tell them you talked to your attorney and he said what you've done is fraud and you can give me my money back or I'll sue you for 3 times the amount of the car. See if that gets the job done.

Yep, that's what I thought. I may not know much about the laws. They sold you a 2wd vehicle that was supposed to be a 4wd. Yeah you are using it for parts but you are kinda missing an important part!

Smart move asking a lawyer and getting real advice instead of just relying on our poor judgment. They can justify it in their minds however they want, but regardless of whether they knew about it or not, they swindled you and you should be compensated for that. They can always take it back and try to screw someone else, I suppose.

I tried to return a car to a dealer, once. It did not go very well. I even offered to take a significant hit on it (~10% or so) to return it and they wouldn't go for it. Because really it's less about the money and more about feeling like you got tricked into buying something you didn't want.

The lawyer is actually my parents neighbor. I went to school with his daughter. He told me to tell them what he said in the second quote and if that doesn't work he will write a letter to the dealership for no fee.
