$5 for brushes.....or $200 for a blower motor assembly.
My poopchute just tightened up tighter than a snare drum. That's ridiculous!

"Why do you need a gun, Tommy?"
"Protection."
"Protection from who? Ze Germans?"

So I dropped a 4.0 block and head off along with a 4.2 crank and the motor shop in Eau Claire to get checked out for possible stroker build last summer... Phil had a friend that needed a 4.0 block so they took mine and Phil was going to replace it with another one when he got the chance...

I just got a txt from a friend whose in-law works at said motor shop... Apparently my motor is sitting there... Guess I'm calling tomorrow to find out if they, in fact, built me a stroker with no parts/money up front...

Yeah mine did too! A guy told me about the brushes and that he changed his. Now to round them up and buy him some beer...

I forget, is that an E2x series or an E30? If it's an E30 I wish you luck if your wiper linkages ever give up the ghost. And they will.

I warned you....

I knew this before I bought it. The number one failure on the 3series and z3 is the blower motor.

Ken, it's an e30 and has a pretty good maintenance record they could have been repaired, Hell if I know. They work fine now and if they give up I'll gut it and cage it and put slicks on it! :D

Dan, how much have you spent on transmissions and engines in the past couple years? Probably more than my bimmer costs! :D The good thing about these cars is they have cheap parts for the most part....the blower motor NOT being one of them! it is easy to change though.

Now you are gonna get hooked on german cars. A buddy got stationed in germany and brought a badass new bmw home, then has one for a dd and one for scca. I went threw a few vw's, they are just as fun as bmw's except its harder to look like a dbag driving a vw...

VAG vehicles have the best emissions systems. :banghead:

I traded in my 87 VW gli with crank sunroof on my first jeep and still kick myself in the ass for getting rid of it!

Funded heavily no doubt by the national foundation of the arts or whatever they call the useless waste of money.

national endowment for the arts? you can call it a useless waste of money if you don't watch television, sports, the news, listen to music, go to concerts or theatre shows, watch movies, use a smartphone or computer, read books, if you don't like well designed vehicle interiors, well designed buildings or if you never look at photography or art...if so, then i guess its a useless waste of money...

oh and also if you don't think people like me should have jobs...

im just razzing you btw, because there are a lot of people who don't understand the importance of the NEA. there are a lot of worthless things in our national budget that need to be trimmed, but cutting funding that helps people develop and explore their creative skills is a really bad idea. sure there are plenty of worthless lame ass creative types who don't deserve the funding they get, but for every one of those, there are hundreds who get help from the nea that really need it. most of them use nea funded programs and materials without even using it. if you have a child in school who takes any sort of art, music or literature course...they have already received some benefit from that money.

okay, i just had to throw my 2 cents in as the artistic weirdo...rant off...back to jeeps.

because enterprise rental car in new jersey is the devil, i had to take the jeep on a 13 hour round trip this weekend. this was the first time i have ever questioned taking her on a long trip after breaking a valve spring the last time out. no issues...hell it drives so much better with long arms and shackle relocation brackets that it almost feels like a stock jeep again on the highway. i do need new tires though, very badly. i'm waiting on a large paycheck to come in so i can spring for a new set. i'm looking at 33x10.5x15's for a lot of reasons. tirebuyer has free shipping and a good price on bfg a/ts and general grabber red letters. the red letters are about $100 more, but i've never used them before...if i have enough checks in at the same time i may even spring for km2's. i'm going with 10.5" wides because i'm also on the hunt for rims with 4.5 or 4.75" backspacing. i currently have 4" and i got pulled over the other weekend and got a warning for having no flares. the officer told me if my tires didn't stick out as far as they do i would have been fine (31x10.5x15 currently). when i put my spare on it was on a stock rim and i could turn it and stuff it without any issues...33's might be a different story, but if i have to i still have the factory flares and brackets if i need them

My .$02 here don't clog up the 2M Communications thread...

I wouldn't ever want to get a HAM license due to the overwhelming whinyness of operators I have talked to, both on the N and in real life. Why would I want to spend hours and $$$ just so I can talk on a radio? Sounds like a PITA to go 'ksssh' Hey we're over here! 'ksssh'. Better have a license or the radio police will get you, unless of course you have a HAM babysitter sitting next to you.

I realize the usefulness of long range radio communications, trust me. That's not the issue. I got a whopping hour of training to use a 800mhz radio, that I talk on daily conducting police business. If you're not an idiot and can keep it clean over the air, what is the huge deal on the extensive training? You can talk to China, cool. I can too on a cell phone.

I'm a ham and yes, this is a huge problem.

Mostly it's old cranky farts who mostly focus on "well back in MY day sonny...!"

I got my license for one reason, I wanted to be able to mess with electronics that use RF comms without the FCC landing on me. Ham radio USED to be about experimentation, research, and pushing the boundaries of communications, so limitations were put in place to keep people from building stuff that would interfere with other licensed radio spectrum users or causing problems for other experimenters.

Now? Most of that stuff has been learned and figured out (and commercialized - thus why you can talk to china on a cell phone, something that makes a lot of old cranky hams very angry when you bring it up) and ham is kinda stuck with the "we are researchers" crank contingent, while not actually researching anything.

If you want to just use the airwaves, get a cellphone, or a CB radio, or FRS, or GMRS, or any number of other products. Use it, it'll work, keep it clean, you're all set.

If you want to tweak and tinker and play around and learn stuff, ham is good because it makes it legal for you to do that, but you're going to run into a lot of very cranky old people and a lot of ignorant people as well. Thems the breaks.
