Important

I'm training again, my trainee has trained with another driver for two weeks and I get him for two weeks. Other than the fact he talks too much when I want only the sound of my Detroit and tire noise, hes a good guy.

I'm currently sitting in the truck while he unloads this stop. Right now I love my job. :D

My jeep is going to JesseJeepin's shop for stiffeners shortly after the crawl! Need to get them things on, instead of them sitting on a shelf in the garage.

Koolaid.

This. I run the finest cheapest shocks I can get at Advance; Monroe Gas-Matic. Blow one up or shear one off you're out $25. Take your extended/collapsed measurements and make them get out the Monroe book from behind the counter.

Fine for what you guys deal with mostly. If you run a lot of fast, high speed dirt roads you learn quickly the value of a good shock.

I used to think exactly like you did till I experienced the difference for myself.

I trained the FNG yesterday and had the exact opposite problem. Spent ten hours with him and I think in that time he said ten words. I didn't the our music tastes would align and I didn't want to make him miserable so I kept the radio off hoping he would have something to say.....nuthun.

FYI - The Jeep junkyard in town has a set of 4 33x10.50x15 KM2s, almost brand new on Gamblers for $700.

Let me know if anyone is interested, I can store them at my house for a short while.

99 was a total train-wreck. T-stat was installed improperly (or used a crappy parts store one), and gushed coolant badly. I'm pretty sure it was a 331 head (build date of 10/99), and the inside of the oil fill cap was light brown. Not quite milkshake consistency, but but it looked sketchy. Also, all the coolant in the overflow jug looked mixed with oil or water or something. It looked nasty.

The interior was beyond trashed out. It was nasty. Body wasn't all that special. More significant rust than what I thought there would be. Tires were crappy and the exhaust was being held on by coat hangers.

Could have been made a decent vehicle, but I didn't want to spend the money to bring it back to roadworthy.

The search continues...

The jeep bug.....it bit this guy! :D

well i bought the 99 i looked at tonight :)

its a little rough around the edges, but in good shape overall. not much rust anywhere, though the body is going to scrap. 99 motor that was rebuilt about 30k ago...runs excellent, all the fluids looked good. has a replacement tranny with 50k on it...some worn swampers on soft 8's...tires are pretty bad, but the rims look great. long arms and crossmember are in good shape (only about 6 months old) its a limited so it has an overhead console and leather seats. the interior is dirty but the driver and passenger seats must have had seat covers because they are still nice. lift gate is pretty good. drivers door is nice...small dent in the passenger door though. all in all its a pretty good pickup for $800...now i just have to find a steering box brace for it to get it where i need it to go. PLENTY of sellable parts on there. should come out of this with a set of long arms, front axle housing and a motor/tranny if i want it.

Confirmed wednesday leave for the crawl. Also leaving for the Badlands next weekend on Wednesday evening or thursday morning.

Mine is a 96, build date 1-96, V8/auto/249. The donor was a 98, 4.0/auto/242.

Can't complain too much I suppose, all parts were free. I had read on a couple forums that 96-98 was all bolt in, guess not. I need a 32" front shaft, the donor was 34". I will probably have an inch or so cut out of the rear shaft.

All of these are collapsed lengths. Keep in mind when measuring for what size you need that your driveshaft is most compressed when the suspension is at full droop

Thanks Mac. I had found that chart somewhere else on the interweb. I thought it would all line up according to this:

The local Jeep yard pulls the shafts and puts them on a shelf, I went out there yesterday with a tape measure, found a couple that should work. I am going back today or tomorrow to confirm. Probably try to find a rear d'shaft also. $50 each, not terrible I suppose but still high IMO.

How much compression room would you call good? 1", 2"? I don't have crazy droop with my setup. Feel like a noob again :D
