Or really cheap shocks from sears or wherever, affordable enough to replace.
Koolaid.
This. I run the finest cheapest shocks I can get at Advance; Monroe Gas-Matic. Blow one up or shear one off you're out $25. Take your extended/collapsed measurements and make them get out the Monroe book from behind the counter.
I'm training again, my trainee has trained with another driver for two weeks and I get him for two weeks. Other than the fact he talks too much when I want only the sound of my Detroit and tire noise, hes a good guy.
I'm currently sitting in the truck while he unloads this stop. Right now I love my job.![]()
Fine for what you guys deal with mostly. If you run a lot of fast, high speed dirt roads you learn quickly the value of a good shock.
I used to think exactly like you did till I experienced the difference for myself.
FYI - The Jeep junkyard in town has a set of 4 33x10.50x15 KM2s, almost brand new on Gamblers for $700.
Let me know if anyone is interested, I can store them at my house for a short while.
99 was a total train-wreck. T-stat was installed improperly (or used a crappy parts store one), and gushed coolant badly. I'm pretty sure it was a 331 head (build date of 10/99), and the inside of the oil fill cap was light brown. Not quite milkshake consistency, but but it looked sketchy. Also, all the coolant in the overflow jug looked mixed with oil or water or something. It looked nasty.
The interior was beyond trashed out. It was nasty. Body wasn't all that special. More significant rust than what I thought there would be. Tires were crappy and the exhaust was being held on by coat hangers.
Could have been made a decent vehicle, but I didn't want to spend the money to bring it back to roadworthy.
The search continues...
Mine is a 96, build date 1-96, V8/auto/249. The donor was a 98, 4.0/auto/242.
Can't complain too much I suppose, all parts were free. I had read on a couple forums that 96-98 was all bolt in, guess not. I need a 32" front shaft, the donor was 34". I will probably have an inch or so cut out of the rear shaft.
