we were out in the wife's WJ all day yesterday during the blizzard's of NWIN that full time 4wd option is pretty sweet it had no trouble trucking through the unplowed streets and it did some pretty sweet doughnuts while the wife was in the store, my son rated me out though he said "daddy was doing chocolate doughnuts in the snow"

haha, Thats pretty funny.

A bit chilly this morning. -13 F as I left the house.

St. Paul has really managed to not clear up the streets well at all. Traffic this morning, 24+ hours after snowfall stopped, was crawling.

Are XJs with manual doors pre-wired for power doors? (If I found power doors would I just have to run the wires from the door to behind the A-pillar kick panel?)

I do not believe so.

Easy enough to add though (iirc), you need the cross body wiring harness that's under the carpet below the driver/passenger's feet, the door harnesses, and the locks/window motors/mirrors if so desired.

Also depends on 2dr vs 4dr vs MJ, 4drs have more wiring harnesses in the B pillars and under the trim at the bottoms of the front door openings.

While you are at it add an extra wire or four to each door for future use in case you want to add a sound system or heated mirrors in the future.

Well, I found a 2-door XJ, 5-speed manual that has cruise, fog lights, etc. But has the manual doors. If I am to strip the 2-door adding the wiring for power doors shouldn't be hard to do at all, especially since there are power-window vehicles at the JY I could get them from.

Something over 16" of total snowfall here, and still only 5 degrees. Redwing, 25 miles away, tallied 20". Just under 2 hours to blow out the driveway this morning. There was a 3 and a 1/2 foot berm at the bottom of the driveway, nothing I own would have gotten over it.

more go pedal

My laptop is in for repairs again, the power cord where it plugs in on the computer needs fixed, it won't hardly charge or stay running. Good to have computer buddies, unfortunately at home we have to use the 2000 desktop that is so slow, so I'm barely online...laptop was purchased in April of 2004, the hard drive has been replaced, ram added, and this power cord issue, hoping to get a couple more years out of it...we did go look at new ones last night, man have prices come down.

mac 'I love snow!!!' gyvr

Modern laptops have short life spans, the price for performance is heat. I'd expect nothing more than 3 years out of a laptop before repairs became 50% of a new one, probably less with the way prices are falling.

If he can't repair your laptop jack mail it to me. I do them all the time. Just make sure he doesn't attack the PCB with too much heat and lift the pads, then I have to run jumper wires to other places on the PCB and it makes me angry. It's pretty much a given that a laptop drive in a new machine will fail about the 2 year mark. It doesn't seem to matter who made it, they all suck and the media density is too high for reliability.

go ahead and do the relay fix for the doors as well, it's in the tech documents as a PDF.

Try to find manual doors, One less thing to worry about failing and its also an MJ, you gotta reach across the cab to roll the other one down, no big deal.

Well I would, but I just called the dealership that was selling it and asked if I came up to test drive it and brought up $1,700 cash (asking price was 1,900) if we could work something out. He said with taxes, title and registration the total would be $2,300. In what world do taxes/title/reg. on a 13 year old suv equal $600!!!

In what state are they handling title/reg for you? Should be ~$120 in sales tax, plus their doc fee (less than $100 usually). They then have 30 days to mail you the title, but then you are still responsible for taking the title in to the BMV and paying the registration. Then the BMV sends you your title with your name on it.

At least on every used vehicle I've bought at a dealer, I've paid sales tax on the spot and gotten a paper plate, but I still had to pay to transfer title and plate it after I received the title. I think you should tell all the dealers to shove it and only deal privately from now on.

I hate manual doors, and in my experience the lock mechanism and the screw thinger in the regulator fail first, not the electronics. I'll take the electronics :)

in MA and IN, I guess. I got soaked for 200 and change on excise tax when I registered my 98, it has a book value of 1250 due to being in rough shape body wise and over 200 thousand miles. That was before plates, insurance, title fee, etc.

I would suspect that he decided 1,900 plus tax/title/fees was a good price for you since you're already talking numbers, and haven't yet set foot on the lot. If you come off like someone who isn't serious about buying, or desperate to buy, there's no reason for him to negotiate price.

Walk in with cash and say this is what im paying out the door

it used to work all the time but i dont know whats with dealerships these days a lot don't jump at cash in hand deals

I used to rat dad out too, then he stopped doing cool stuff with me and I realized that I should shut my trap.

Same thing happened with a friend's wife 2 weeks ago. I'm teaching firearms safety and shooting to some friends boys. I let them step up from the .22 to the AK for 5 rounds if they behaved and listened. They kept up their part of the bargain, they got their five rounds. I told them not to tell their mothers.

as soon as he saw his mom he said "I got to shoot Nate's AK today!"

it did not go well. And the thing that pisses me off is that she wasn't pissed that I let him shoot the rifle, or tat it was unsafe or something, just that she didn't want him going to school and saying "AK". So it's ok if he shoots anything else, just not an AK.

ignorance pisses me off.

I know somebody that works at a buy here pay here place.

They're not interested in cash deals, they're interested in financing you a $4000 car for 3 years so you pay 7 on it.

Or they take your down payment, you default on the loan, they repo it, you pay to get it back (first time repo fee was 500 I think), then you default on it again, they repo it, Charge you another fee ($1K I think) then demand the loan be paid in full, or they auction it and you're still on the hook for the balance of the fees and the loan that isn't covered by the auction.

Car dealers are sketchy.
