I think it's time for a Wrenchfest!

It works for impact guns and air ratchets. I'd say it should work okay to help us get stuff apart and together quicker.

The front suspension on Annie is an Iron Rock long arm correct?

Yes it is. Should be pretty easy and straight forward to swap. And yes, I am gonna spray her down good with penetrating oil!

Is that kit basically bolt on? Is there any drilling required for new holes to clamp the crossmember in place? I don't have a great selection of bits. Most are smaller.

I'd say we can swap the entire rear suspension, springs and all by just removing the spring bolts and rolling the entire unit from one vehicle to the other.

Question: Do we want to put Annie on the lift and strip all the assemblies off of it and then haul it out and then pull in Fiona and strip and reassemble?

If we strip Annie on the lift, how will we pull her out of the way to get Fiona up without axles and wheels...unless we can set the chassis on wheel dollies and roll her. Does anyone have wheel dollies?

I have wheel dollies. We could also put it on a trailer and haul it around back to the boneyard.

If I am thinking correctly, there won't be any way to put a stock suspension back onto the 2001 since the brackets were removed for the IRO long arms.

That was my thought. We can probably disassemble the suspension pretty easily. Unbolt the front and rear leafs from the frame, unbolt brake line, remove driveshaft, pull whole axle/leaf assembly. Same for the front. Unbolt everything from the frame but leave on the axles since they are going directly on.

If it's easier we could disassemble from the lift but honestly the only thing we would need that lift for is the transmission swap. Maybe pull annie up, remove drivetrain, set annie aside. Next pull Fiona up, remove old drive train, install Annie's drive train/iro crossmember etc. We can have a team pulling suspension parts off annie while the drivetrain in Fiona is coming out/going in. After that we should be able to through the suspension back on. I believe there is some minor drilling but I will bring all the bits I need.

As far as the stock suspension goes... I still have upper ca brackets. It may work well enough to make it a rolling chassis, then again it may not. On paper it seems like it may work.

Ed, completely off-topic. Do you want the old stock fender flares that I took off of my 01? You can have them if you want them.

I don't think so but if you are going to trash them, I'll take 'em. Mark has a couple vehicles with that style flare along with my Mother-In-Laws XJ. Never know when you might need one.

They have some rock rash on them but I'll bring them. If you want them great. If not, it won't hurt my feelings.

I need about 8 concrete blocks if anyone has some to spare.

Annie will not have doors so I can understand if you don't want to drive her in January all the way to Ed's. Lol.

You know what, I may want to get 30 minutes in the seat, just to see what it is like driving doorless!

That reminds me of driving to the Spring Meet and Greet when it was spitting snow with now doors and Joe following me. Joe sent me a text say "Oh man whoo I've got to turn the heat down in here. I'm sweating."

Haha. Those were some good days.

Does anyone have inverted torx sockets? From what I've read there are two inverted torx bolts at the top of the housing.

Will we need:

  • corded drill and bits
  • pickle fork
  • extra jack stands
  • air hammer, air ratchet, air impact
Those are about all the "specialty tools that I have. I will bring my "trail fix" tool box, but leave all my big stuff home unless I know for certain it is needed.

I will bring my set of flares for Ed to have as spares for the 97+ models. Also, this weekend, I am picking up a double shear adjustable track bar from Chuckster, so I will have an adjustable Rough Country track bar with a TRE that I don't need anymore. If anyone working Wrenchfest wants to buy it, I will bring it down. If not, it'll hit the For Sale forum later in the month. I'll give y'all first dibs since we'll all be working together.

Will the drive train swap need any new bolts? I have left overs from the pack of M10 bolts I bought for the upper control arms and track bar.

Better to bring them and not need them then need them and not have them.
