I think I could use some help with salvage

Details still need to be settled, but I think we've got a rough plan. The MJ is going to be dropped off at Keven's, preferably Friday, and we're going to strip it. I'm hoping to take as little time as possible, to get as much stuff off as I can.

Does anyone want to come out on Saturday? Give me some help, check out a burned truck, eat my food?

I'm not sure how much damage there is to the block itself. The intake manifold melted and the valve cover is half destroyed, if that tells you how hot it was in there.

I'm planning on being out there by about 8:00 Saturday morning. All help will be appreciated, this thing has been going on too long.
Anyone need directions?

I'd love to help, but I will be out of town again on Saturday. I'll be in Yuba City for a relious assembly and dressed up. I might be able to help on Sunday. Are you just grabbing the axles, susp, tires? I think that is about all you could get from it, maybe the rock sliders & front bumper. Maybe somone has a welder so things can be cut off fast. You don't have to worry about the subframe, etc because it is being trashed anyways. Did you get the dumpster yet?

I'm going to try and make it. I'll let you know when I am certain.

Current plan is to just have it hauled off on a flatbed tow truck once it's done.
I think there's quite a bit that I can pull off. I'd like to be done before Sunday.

I was on Highway 49, a little north of 80. Heading towards 80 after a long day wheeling. I failed tech: no fire extinguisher.

Back in the mid-seventies I had a nice '69 GTO with a 400 engine that my brother and I had tricked out. The fuel line to the engine split and started a fire. Thank goodness a trucker stopped with a fire extinguisher and put it out cause there was alot of money and time in that engine. Thank God for good samaritans. :yelclap:

That can make all the difference in the world, timing & people's generocity/willingness to help those in need. Heah, on a side note, are your happy with your 4.7L motor? How much did it cost for the conversion in parts/labor etc? I have a 91' hi-ouput 4.0L with 204K miles and was thinking of that mod. If I need a rebuild anyways soon, then how much more would the stroker mod be? Please advise.
thanks...Troy

The stroker was put together for under $1000 including rebuild kit, new cam and pistons, and all the machine shop work. You can go cheaper. If you are going to put the money into an engine then the difference is really only the cost of the donor crank and rods as you would have to buy everything new anyway unless you go for perfromance pistons. When your ready then go on over to the yahoo stroker group (not the San Fran based one!) that Dino (Dr. Dyno) runs and get advice on what you want to build up.
I bought the '87 rig for $1000 and it already had a dana 44 so I'm into it now for a little over $2000 with the engine and lift. The stroker is awesome on the trail and allows me to tow a trailer with no effort.

Post up some directions Phil. My brain is shot and I don't remember how to get to Keven's. I'll try to be there on Sat. I'm in my last 7 days of school right now, so until they are done, I can't garuntee anything, but I will do my best to be there and help out.

How much hp do you think you have with the 4.7L? Torque? Are there shops that know how to do this mod? What's wrong with the SF group? I live about 80 miles from SF. Do you have a link to Dr. Dyno advice page?

50 => Watt, South on Watt
Watt => Keifer, left onto Keifer (Keifer is the about the third light, past Manlove)
Keifer => Tallyho, right onto Tallyho (there's a light there now)
About the third stop sign on Tallyho. It'll be the one with the MJ, #4312.

Hope to see Karl and Jason both, some more too?

What should we bring? Extra grinder? BFHs? Jack and Jack stands? I got some of the big harbor freight ones. I got a big axe :D Shotgun? I've got some Buffalo Bullets for my revolver that might be able to cut that engine block down to size :explosion: :party1:

Maybe I missed it, but what are we salvaging? Kevin wanted the suspension stuff right? And you want the axles. Anything else? That should be easy. We installing them in the new xj too? Might as well. Tehn we should head to Prairie City afterwards :D

I'm going to try to get anything off that I can.
Front bumper (toasted but should be solid), t-case skid, gas tank and skid, taillights (MJ lights seem to be less available), spare tire hoist under the bed, sliders, hitch, steering linkages (just need to chip off the intake manifold), Lift is going to Keven, axles, rack (Rob was interested in it), maybe a fender for my wall and eventually my garage? It's not often you total your first vehicle.
It would be nice to sell a few things if I can, I really wasn't ready to have this all happen.

I think we have jack and stands, but if you've got the room, I'd say bring them. It'd be better to have extras, than not enough. Grinder, hammer, sawzall? Keven was going to try to get a compressor for air tools.

I'd like to get the axles swapped over, but the front is a disco and the rear isn't a bolt in swap. Something about both shocks mounting on the same side as the axle, and the perches being closer together. Unless a welder shows up?

Hey Phil,

I am going to be over on that side of town Saturday AM and could drop off my compressor (33gal) if needed. I probably couldn't stay long since its my 5th anniversary, but your welcome to it. I will need it back soon though for a project on 11th-13. Buzz me, I hit ya back channel w/ #.

We could use the compressor JP.

No problem, I will see you Sat morning. Bringing compressor, impact, ratchet, and an extra sawsall for you. You will need extra blades since I'm low on stock.
