I'm at the point of either adding a hitch for the restoration or not adding a hitch. Anyone have photo(s) of the same/similar XJ with a hitch installed?

This is what you want. They are plentiful. In fact I have one to sell but shipping would kill you.

The receiver for all years XJ will work. Be advised the center bracket (part 2, bolts 6, and the bracket on the receiver) was deleted at some point prior to 1996. This is no big deal as it will still work.

Part 3 is a nut strip inside the frame rail. You remove it by removing the bumper and cutting a rivet that holds it in place then fishing it out. There is also a nut strip on the passenger side but you may already have that for your exhaust hanger (check beforehand, if the holes in the frame are threaded that's your nut strip you see).

Wiring is inside the drivers side quarter panel. Remove the interior trim and get it, splice into your existing loom. You will get the connector, a big relay pack (part 11) that is contained in a sound insulating blanket, and some connectors.

Keep your receipts if you install one. I hear there may be a recall on the XJ's that had no hitch. The hitch adds stregnth in a rear end collision protecting the fuel tank.....
