So after 5 years of beating the snot out of this thing in the dirt, I’ve developed a vicious rod knock or piston slap. Shame cuz its only got 200k (40k on tranny) miles on it but the last 20k or so have been high rpm high speed wanna-be desert racer shit.

So I’m looking for another xj to start swapping parts over.

If someone knows of a decent xj in the area I’m looking to spend under 2 g’s don’t care much about the body; I just want relatively low miles, a HO and an ax15. After 2 renix’s and 1 HO I’ve finally come to realize HO is a better jeep all around. And I’m sick of electronic failures with the aw4. Nor do I want to deal with tranny coolers/filters/drain pans no mo.

Thanks to anybody who wants to put a jeep in the proper hands of a fellow jeeper.

I have an engine!
:D
PM me if you're interested.
it's a 97 HO with like 135000 miles on I think.
120 bucks!
lot cheaper than a new jeep

was it your dd or trail rig and when did it finally happen?
that is unfortunate man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trail rig... It started knocking right in front of kraigen while picking up a part last saturday. Wish it happend while i was doing something cooler like launching off a fatty jump but Luckily i was close enough to get it home before it grenaded. It seriously sounds like its about to explode its soo damn loud, still runs not sure for how long though.

I'll just cut holes in the unibody and swap everything over. Hoop needs to be raised a little anyway... Luckily this is the only welding i've done to the jeep. I was just about to start on some stiffeners, thank god i didn't do that yet.

I want to see some more pics....

Oh no, not at all. Once in a while i hear the squish of the fluid passing. But only if I’m crawling and the music is turned down, then I smile after I hear it. These shocks are very quite IMO. I can rarlely hear it when haulen ass. If i concentrate on them i can hear em. The hole they are protruding through in the floor is completely covered with neoprene wet suit material to keep all outside elements out (and it works flawlessly).

Now that I want to see pics of!

How did you attach it to the shock body? How did you attach it to the floor? Did you just cut an old wetsuit up, and the sew it to fit around the shock?

I guess its for the best i have to get a new xj, this one was starting to rust up on the floor and everything i really did to this thing was a learning process. Now i can start fresh and do it right. I'd like to cut this hoop out and powder coat it. My buddy made a powder coater with a 50 gallon barrell.

I cut a 1" slit in the middle of the square piece of neoprene (from a wet suite) and it stretched over the shock nice and snuggly. I then use industrial strenght adheasive to adhear it to the unibody.

Here's what the hole looks like from the bottom side. Its the smallest hole i could fit factoring in the full rotational sway of the shock. I made a mock up shock first and fully cycled everything.
