I hate Insurance Companies!

Hartford wanted me to fill out some forms regarding the use of my XJ. I stated I do not use my XJ for work and it is for personal use. They told me I had to have the forms to them by June 16th.

I filled out the Forms, sent them over night ($17.30) on Friday, June 13th. They signed for them and picked them up on June 15th at 9:15am. That's what my return receipt states and so does USPS Track and Confirm shows.

They called me yesterday, June 25th to inform me they cancelled my policy on June 16th. The reason... they claimed they did not recieve the forms untill June 18th. What?!

The agent took all my information including delivery date and sent it to an underwriter. The underwriter said, declined. Why, they still claimed they did not get it until June 18th.

I called Hartford later in the afternoon yesterday and expressed (nicely) to the agent about all this. She took down what I said and sent it to an underwriter again. Declined.

Today, I called Hartford again. Talked to an agent. She went to her supervisor and the supervisor declined going to an underwriter. Why, they had already sent it twice.

I asked how to I take this to the next step. The agent gave me a P.O. Box address for Hartford Consumer Affairs. I asked how long before I would get a response. She said within 30 days.

I asked what am I supposed to do for insurance in the meantime. She told me I should go to a local insurance agent and seek new coverage.

I said Hartford cancelled my insurance and now it has lapsed and I would have to pay at a higher premium. She said thank you for calling and for using Hartford Insurance and hung up.

I am so very, very, very angry. I do not have the money to seek out new auto insurance. I just paid an initial premium 3 months ago and have made monthly payments.

I live in the city and do not dare drive without insurance.

I hate insurance companies!

call back, and tell them to refund or you will get lawyers involved.

they probably cancelled it because they think you're unsafe (if you wrote out that you wheel your cherokee...)

Quit being nice to them. You are paying them, not vice versa. Some people will not get off their ass and do anything unless you start screaming at them. Good luck.

Tell them to shove it and find a new company. I have State Farm and they have always been good to me. When my father was cut off by a woman with no insurrance and had to dump his Harley State Farm paid for all of the damages to his bike and chased the woman down and got him his deductible back. The rates didn't go up either.

Pay by the month?

The last time I heard of this they guy was accident prone and was virtually uninsurable. I hope that's not your situation!

I pay every 6 months. They cancelled me after 4 months.

I have never had an accident, never a speeding ticket. I have "Safe Driver" printed on my license. I am a Grandmother, I am 52 and I pretty much stay at home to take care of my 3 last children because I am disabled.

With the one question: I checked the box for: only used for personal use. They are in Connecticut and have no idea what I use it for or what it looks like.

In Florida -- when your insurance cancels a notification goes to the DMV, and they can suspend your license if they don't get another notification its been remedied within so many days.

I do not know what to do.

I have no money at this time and I am behind in my Electric Bill and my Ex told me that we will not be getting money (tho over the years it has been only a few hundred a month for our last 3 children) anymore because there is nothing I can do about it. My Ex is not a U.S. citizen.

I am terribly, terribly depressed.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't express this on the forum. I always try to be positive and not let people know I have financial problems. Everyone is always going through their own issues. I'm not alone. Most of us on here, I believe, go wondering how we will make it through the month.

Call your agent, they work commission and are supposed to be on YOUR side for something like this

That really sucks. It sounds like even if it costs you a little more it's time to find another company that treats you a little better.
But...I would save all your recepts showing when it was sent and when they got it. What ever it costs you to find another company....sue them in small claims court for the difference.

I also have State Farm. Had them for 10 years and they have been great.

I wish I had an agent. I had Hartford through AARP. I'm over 50.

Hartford said it was not up to them. Their underwriters did this to me. However, they would not give me their phone number or tell me what underwriting company they use.

Why not try contacting AARP? If they are putting their name beside a company to get members to buy they might help you get this resolved.

Tell them you are about to send out postings to all 20,000 NNTP newsgroups, every vehicle forum you are a member of, not to mention 2 million email address's you got from a friend documenting the screwing they gave you. If they ask where you got the emails from tell em from some guy who did database work on their oracle servers..... :D :D :D :D

I've had Erie for the last 25 years, flawless.

Thanks. I had planned on calling them tomorrow.

Now, that would be interesting to try.

I had some problems with the refinancing company that my bank, USAA, assigned my account to. I called up USAA told them what was going on, all the different information I was getting, last minute changes out of no where etc..

They called the next day I had a new point of contact, my refinance was done by the end of the week and I got some extra credits towards the closing.

Just give AARP the pissed off Grandma line then go into how long you've been a member how many of your friends you've recommended blah blah blah. If it is still not to your liking give the local FOX station a call. I say FOX because here in El Paso they will take a story from anyone with a quickness.

Damn the man!!

I would definitely give AARP a call, they are known for pursuing this sort of thing with a vengence.

Thanks.

I'm going to give AARP a call in the morning.

In Tampa, It's "8 On Your Side!" ABC News.

My dad's life ins. company (Met. Life)has been pulling this s*&% about once a year for the last four or five years. They'll actually cash his check days before his due date, then cancel his policy for nonpayment. Get a lawyer. My dad's lawyer is this crazy old-school guy who doesn't fiddle around. It took him maybe ten minutes to get things taken care of (the last time this happened to my dad).

Call AARP to let them know what's going on.

Inform the local Bureau for Consumer Affairs (whatever they're called there.)

Call Hartford and let them know you've done that, due to their inaction. Let them know you want things sorted and now (since you can prove that they got the docs before the due date,) or you'll be calling your ABC affiliate right after you ring off with them.

If necessary, call the ABC affiliate.

AARP and BCA should be told about this - even if you get resolution (because it's still shonky business practise and poor customer service.) The ABC affiliate is your "weapon of last resort" - that's going to get the public involved.

(If you do get it sorted without going to ABC, it may still be useful to write an Op-Ed and see if you can get it published. Set the tone of "I finally got this sorted, but I had to do all of this" and that should still get some hackles up...)

I'm going to call the Better Business Bureau tomorrow first thing. Then call AARP and tell them I called the BBB and that this is just unacceptable. I will be forceful and tell them I will be seeking Legal Options if this is not resolved and if I am not reinstated. I will tell them I will also contact ABC or even FOX News and their Consumer Advocate Departments.

What do you think people?

You're on the right track - you've got your Order of Battle set, and a plan in place (and it makes perfectly good sense to me.)

Throw the switch, Max!

Thanks.
