Hartford wanted me to fill out some forms regarding the use of my XJ. I stated I do not use my XJ for work and it is for personal use. They told me I had to have the forms to them by June 16th.
I filled out the Forms, sent them over night ($17.30) on Friday, June 13th. They signed for them and picked them up on June 15th at 9:15am. That's what my return receipt states and so does USPS Track and Confirm shows.
They called me yesterday, June 25th to inform me they cancelled my policy on June 16th. The reason... they claimed they did not recieve the forms untill June 18th. What?!
The agent took all my information including delivery date and sent it to an underwriter. The underwriter said, declined. Why, they still claimed they did not get it until June 18th.
I called Hartford later in the afternoon yesterday and expressed (nicely) to the agent about all this. She took down what I said and sent it to an underwriter again. Declined.
Today, I called Hartford again. Talked to an agent. She went to her supervisor and the supervisor declined going to an underwriter. Why, they had already sent it twice.
I asked how to I take this to the next step. The agent gave me a P.O. Box address for Hartford Consumer Affairs. I asked how long before I would get a response. She said within 30 days.
I asked what am I supposed to do for insurance in the meantime. She told me I should go to a local insurance agent and seek new coverage.
I said Hartford cancelled my insurance and now it has lapsed and I would have to pay at a higher premium. She said thank you for calling and for using Hartford Insurance and hung up.
I am so very, very, very angry. I do not have the money to seek out new auto insurance. I just paid an initial premium 3 months ago and have made monthly payments.
I live in the city and do not dare drive without insurance.
