it can... depending on the game. most people hunt varmit with a .223, which isnt much bigger. i have a .22 hornet that my great grandfather used to use for deer. the .22 round has the velocity for a clean pass through.

now, with larger game, the problem i see is wound size. a .22 round is so small, you will get a lot of internal bleeding into the chest cavity with a good shot, but you wont get much of a blood trail because the entry/exit wounds are so small.

I wouldn't, if the shot placement isn't perfect the deer won't leave much of a blood trail, and will probably suffer. I've seen brodheads go through em and see the deer months later suffering

.22 is not legal to hunt deer with. Minimum caliber in Indiana is .410 in shotgun and .357 with handgun. IIRC.

Can you hunt with a 22 rifle (not the legalities of it, can the gun put an animal down)? There is some circumstances, but I may get in my possession a 22 with a 8x30 scope on it.

Worked with the DNR at one of the registration stations the past few years. Had one gent trying to tell us the arrow did not kill it and he had to shoot it with a 22 so it did not suffer. Funny thing was there was no sign of bleed out or clotting around the arrow entry area.

The crap people try to tell us around here is funny.

Like a frozen stiff deer that showed up at check in on opening morning at 745AM. I laughed when he told me he just shot it. It was a meat cube. Hell it was only 30 degrees that day but a deer carcass would take hours to become frozen like his was.

There was another person under investigation around here for poaching and shining, the part that pisses me off is I know him to be a trophy hunter and he's rich enough that they do not need the meat but pisses and moans about not seeing any deer or the DNR hassling him every time I see him.

If you need the venison fine but if your not starving be careful. The group up here have no sympathy for poaching, or hunting without the proper gear. They have a pretty good collection of small caliber rifles and pistols that have been confiscated up here thinking they could use them deer hunting.

ive seen deer missing half their face because someone tried to do a head shot.

head shots are never the answer unless the animal is suffering on the ground right in front of you.

except for zombies... and zombie deer. funny zombie fact. the .223 is considered by a lot to be the best zombie round out there. accurate at respectable range, but its the ballistics that make it shine. upon entering the skull, the round will fragment on the second impact with the skull, rather than pass through. shredded brain = dead zombie.

i have been looking into an AR style rifle. i have been told you can hunt in MI with a .308 round, so i would probably get one in that caliber. sounds right, but i would have to confirm that before a purchase. can anyone verify? i want something i can confidently hunt with, and take to the range. semi auto is appealing, we have a fair number of bolt and lever action rifles. also been eyeing a springfield M1a.

(i am firearm retarded. i just shoot my bow once in a blue moon. actually didnt hunt as much as i would have liked when i was younger. aside from not having the patience, my parents were both working full time and i was away every weekend with hockey, not to mention practice 3 nights a week. i know safety and proper handling... just looking to purchase my own rifle. i really dont use my shotgun as much as id like, and the family gems that have come down to me i only take to the range on occasion... which isnt very often.)

Do you think I am a retard? I was trying to help the :dunce: that asked if a .22 was proper for deer hunting. I have never tried to shoot a deer in the head and never will, but that is the ONLY way you are going to kill and find a deer with a .22.

id like to hunt with it, but want something that will shoot sub MOA, and reach a good ways. like i said, i have a fair number of high powered rifles available to me, just want something different. and sitting at the range all day is F'in dumb to me. once your sited it... its just $$$. id rather go shoot skeet.

going to try some video... see how it looks. thinking 1080 with the narrowest field of view. might try 720 so i can get a higher FPS.

its a little bulky. i used as few parts as possible to save weight. no battery pack or LCD. even threw on the skeleton housing for weight, and should give me the best sound quality. i want it as close to the grip as possible, farther out on the stabilizer means more leverage. i shoot with an open palm, but dont let the bow fall away, so having it on top of the stabilizer might be problematic. i think putting it below might give it a poor line of sight (and more leverage, as its farther away from the fulcrum, aka, my hand)

ill have to play with it, see how it turns out, and if i can accurately shoot with it. thinking start at 10yds, move to 20-25, then take it to the stand. most of the places dont have lanes that are much further, and since the gopro doesnt have zoom, father might not look good.
