Shafts usually run about $50-75 EACH SIDE + shipping, sometimes they have the hubs attached. Also look for later Wranglers (TJ's) and 91' and newer XJ's with ABS, XJ's after about 95' all had the larger joints.

Pick-in-pulls have them even cheaper, but you do the labor of pulling them off. Just make sure you have both the 13mm 12-point socket and a 36mm socket.

You'll see the tone ring on the end of the shaft, near one of the ears. Also, the joint will be noticably larger. Take a quick measurement of what you have before you go. If you have the 260's now the 297's will bere noticably larger.

I just got a hub and spare shaft form a 95 XJ for $50. (The spare hub will be used in my '93XJ with 95 axles) I wll be returning to the yard to get the other side soon for same price.

I have been running 4.56 gears with 33" swampers / and 33" AT's to Moab with out a problem. stock cross shaft and stock thrust washers.

I also have the Tera 2LO kit in the 231 so I harldly use the front axle/locker unless it is needed. Less wear and tear.
