How will 31x10x50 duratracs look compared to my 30x9.50 cooper at3

Re: Re: How will 31x10x50 duratracs look compared to my 30x9.50 cooper at3

That is close enough to use a drift punch to get the holes lined up. After that, use the bolt to drive the punch back out from the opposite side. It sounds evil, and it is.
Is that just like a regular punch? Im gonna need a bigger one. I don't think the punches I have cover it.

Hypoid how do you clear your 31s? Off set wheels? I may have to invest in some of those

A drift punch is used for aligning holes.

Spud Bars can do the same.

I never ran spacers with the stock wheels. There were very few times I turned the wheel far enough to rub the control arms, so I didn't worry about it. One thing I did do, is change the bump stops. I bought some taller shocks from a local member, and wanted to protect them from bottoming out. The end result is that tires can stuff into the wheel well, and not rub. :)

drift punch smift punch.

find you the biggest philips screwdriver in your toolbox and use that.

that's how I've done it when my toolbox was limited.
Hell, I've used a big screwdriver ratchet strapped in place as a trail fix to replace a missing LCA bolt.

My toolbox is weak. But it is growing thanks to this jeep.

87manche did you find you needed to trim the shock mounts at all

Garage sales are your friend, estate sales are even better!
Good idea. I need to hit some of those up.

OMG i got it bolted up. Well the driver side anyway. I used a combination of the bottle jack on the CA itself, regular jack on the axle, and a decent sized screw driver. They didn't have a punch big enough at lowes. Either way I'm pleased and thank those that gave advice.

However, my satisfaction does not cone without worry. Look how close the top of the CA comes to the axle bracket itself. Is this normal? It's like super close

Are you at maximum droop now?

If not, .. then you're about to be. :) There's no room there for that arm to swing 'up' when you droop.

Re: Re: How will 31x10x50 duratracs look compared to my 30x9.50 cooper at3

Well that's not good!

I'm embarrassed but can you explain droop.

Its up a few inches with the jack on the front diff.

Well then i believe the above picture was taken opposite of that since it is slightly jacked up on the driver side

So I'm gonna need some more advice on why this is happening. I haven't seen this to be a problem on any site I've read up on

Lots of people, including myself, have cut out part of the top of the LCA bracket and part of the shock mount. That would be the hump above it.

The only other disadvantage to WJ arms is that they hit the lower shock mount even faster than OEM arms. Trim that back while you have the arms off.

Good idea. I need to hit some of those up.

Right, this is what I was talking about here. ^^^

I cut a portion of the top of that mount out and notched the bottom part of the shock mount. It doesn't take make. Half an inch on both pieces.

Oh OK. I didn't realize everyone was talking about trimming the shock mount AND the LCA bracket. I guess that makes sense because they are basically right on top of one another. Sorry I can be pretty dense sometimes, especially when talking about cutting metal off. I have a reoccurring intense fear of cutting too much

As far as WJ LCA's go.. they are better than running the stock ones, but really you'd be best off to save your penny's and buy some Rubicon Express or similar ones that are intended for the way we use our vehicles. Better quality control arms will have a 'flex joint' of some type on one end or both, and allow the arms to twist without stressing anything.

Does any one know if these will clear 31s? Will they offer as much cushion or vibration reduction? Are they the same length? I couldn't see a measurement on amazon or quadratic.

I may just try and sell the WJ ones and get these if they will fit and stuff. Just contemplating options.

I just read this on another forum. "1/4 longer than stock so helps out caster angles etc. Really good clearance around the axle mounting bracket."
I like the sound of that.

Still would want to make sure they would clear my 31s with the stock wheels. And also curious if they ride as good as the WJs are said too

I've never run those but I'd guess that since they're straight they're going to rub your tires. But, since they're round tube it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

No, they aren't going to ride quite as good as WJ arms but I doubt the difference in ride quality would be THAT noticeable.
