How wide are your XJ's???

Here is my concern! I have a tandem axle trailer that measures 82" between the fenders. I haul my stock axled XJ on it that is equipped w/ 36X12.50.15 TSL SX's. Those tires are mounted on 15X8 Steel wheels w/ the standard 3.75 BS. I have approx. 3.5 inches on both sides of the tires when I'm centered on the trailer.

I am in the process of doing a front and rear axle swap on my XJ. I am going w/ Full Width axles out of a 79 F-250. Front is a D44 and the rear is a D60. I measured the WM to WM on the front D44 and it measures around 67.5 inches. I plan on running 17x10 Beadlock wheels with a standard 3.75 BS and 37X13X17 Tires.

I was wondering if anybody knew how wide thier XJ's are from outside tire to outside tire with the same type setup???

I'm just hoping I don't have to buy another trailer for the XJ after the axle swap. Thanks for any information.

PS. No I cannot drive over my fenders because the trialer has a rail all the way around it

I am curious to know. I am probably wrong, but I think ur jeep will be 88" wide in the new set up with new tires. I don't even know what does WM stand for

WM = Wheel Mount

88" If you don't take into consideration any BS- Backspacing on the wheels. I would assume that you could subtract at least 7inches from your figure for BS??

I made a mistake, I double checked what was measurement for backspacing. I think you are at 83 inches wide.

You possibly fit on the trailer, but it will be really tight fit. Let us know how it fits. Maybe try over inflating your tires to make them little bit narrower?

chop the rails?

run 8" wheels?

why would you run 3.75" of backspacing on an axle that can use 5" .i i have the exact setup you are making and used 17x9 rim with 5" of backspacing.most people that see my Jeep have a hard time believing they are uncut axles.my trailer is 82" wide and i have no problem fitting on.

Well Wil,
The only reason I am considering running those wheels is because I can get them for about $75 less a wheel then if I were to order custom BS!!!
Thanks for your input.

mine aren't custom rims.the 5" of BS is standard BS for your axles so my input is perfectly valid .my rims cost me no more then the rims you are looking at i'm sure of that.like i said i'm running the exact setup you plan on running and i fit on the trailer size you mention.if you don't think my help is valid i'll be happy to stop posting in your thread.

If you are looking into buying wheels for a cherokee bolt pattern, you are way off anyways

this is correct... when swapping axles under your jeep your selection will be based on the vehicle the axles came out of... standard backspacing on a bronco or f250 for example is completely different than standard for an XJ... 8 lug as opposed to 5 and because of the size of the wheel opening on the older f250 trucks, wheels with 5 inches of backspacing shouldn't be hard to find at all

i just went out and measured my junk and it sits at 78" to the outer most buldge of 36"x13.5x17 on 5" of BS.this is the front end as well so the rear would be slightly less.

Wil, I was thanking you for your input not being sarcastic!!! I just know I can get a deal here locally on a set of brand new 17 X 10 Beadlock w/ a BS of 3.75. I know I can go more then 5" BS w/ my new axles, I understand that. I'm just trying to go as wide as I can, yet get on my trailer. Which again is
82"s
Again, I thank you for your input and your measurments.

sorry.. i'm not trying to be pushy but why do you want to get as wide as possible.i have found in most places i would like to be a bite skinnier.i wouldn't go above 5" or the hubs start to stick out for rocks.i wouldn't go below 4" of BS.that would bring you up to 80" or bigger depending on tire pressure and tire choice.i would want as much room to have between my tires and the rails.

I guess I'm looking for a little bit more stability also! I know the trails that I run here locally are narrow also, I'm currently right at 9 3/4" of lift and get a little tippy from time to time. Just thought the extra few inches on both sides would help out. Again I'm just looking for Guys who have already spent the money and are happy w/ thier setups, before I drop $800 on a set of Beadlocks and wish I would have asked Q's earlier.

Wil, I'm probably gonna go with the new 37x13x17 TSL Bogger wich measure 13.5 in width. It's a 10 ply tire were most of the Boggers are only 6
BTW you got any pics of your rig? I'd like to see a pic of it head on if you got one. Thanks

i hear ya i'm running 8" on 36" iroks i understand stabilty but you are going to be getting that with the few extra inches as well as the gained weight from the larger axles and rims.with the back spacing i have i'm maybe 3~4 inches wider over all then stock axles and the regular aftermarket offset.

thats about how much room i have side to side.

here is a page of pictures from when i did the axle swap.it will give you an idea of how i fit on the trailer as well as show how close i come to fitting on the trailer
