How do you install a lift kit???

Should of done some more research on a complete lift kit. Blocks are garbage especially at 3". 3.5" adjustable shackles sound like crap too. It'll have bad axle wrap, and ride like sh!t.

You'll need ALOT more than just lift parts to make it right, or even driveable.

Long arms or drop brackets
Upgraded LCA's and UCA's
Longer NEW u bolts
Extended brake lines
SYE and driveshaft(T case drop will do nothing for a late model rig if thats what you have)
Adjustable track bar and beefy frame side bracket
Steering(stock might work but will suck)
Other things

Im sure you'll be running large tires on stock gears, so mileage is going to drop through the floor, power is going to be lost, and your trans will get hotter than normal unless you run a large aftermarket cooler.

How much experience do you have working on your Jeep?

It might help if you tell us what part you're confused about (where to start, how to remove something, etc).

6.5" is a lot of lift, and you'll need the components to go along with it. Take a look at various companies kits, and see how yours compares (RE, Iron Rock, Rustys, etc). It sounds like your kit was pieced together since it didn't come with rear leaf packs (especially at 6.5").

Worst case I'm sure a few of us local guys could lend a hand for a few hours if need be. Props to you for wanting to learn and do it yourself.

3" blocks? Yeah... junk those. Get some lift springs.

That. You obviously are fairly new to this. Do it the right way and don't just throw a lift on it without doing research. My advice would be to just go ahead and get a good set of tires and a 2" BB then get some tow points and skids and work your way up. You get out there in a jeep with 6+ inches of lift and no recovery gear or driving skills and you are gonna get someone hurt or break your rig.

Here is an idea of what you can do on 31's and 2" of lift.

That's IF the Jeep ever leaves your driveway again.

Start small and work your way up. 6" is way too ambitious for a total n00b. You can't fit all of the information and instruction necessary to lift an XJ that high into one post or even one thread. It takes WAY more parts and work than just throwing in springs and blocks. It is not a good project for a beginner. Get some local help, install a cheaper, smaller, simpler lift, go wheeling, have fun, read and research on naxja.org, and someday you'll be ready to join the big boys.

Can somebody post a link to a decent 1-2" BB kit?

Ok thanks i really want to know how to do all of this that way i'll know how to do it myself and learn some thing you know. i mean i'm only 16 years old this is my first rig that me and my dad want so we can go wheelin and stuff like that.

well i mean my whole family is into all this stuff i know how to drive i just don't know how to install the lift that's all

Is your Dad mechanically inclined? If so, make it a Father/Son project. Use the search feature here, there have been plenty of tech threads on installing lifts of different heights and variety. If you have any mechanical ability most of it is pretty straight-forward, you just need to take your time and double-check everything.

Before that though, use your newfound search skills to look up opinions and experiences with different lift heights and brands of components. After doing that, sell the "lift kit" you bought to some other sucker on CL and buy something realistic.
 
yeah i know what you mean. yeah actually my dad is a machinist at clark college i mean he can make those things but he just has to have examples and stuff to make it.
yeah i've been doing that to and i want to put 33's atleast and a 6" lift is recomended for 33's WITHOUT cuting the fenders haha and neither me or my dad want to cut the fenders
 
Don't do a 6" lift and 33s... that's crazy topheavy. Not cutting the fenders will just look goofy at that point.
 
I've seen 2" on 37s. Do whatever you want really, I just think it looks silly when the vehicle is tall and the wheels aren't in the fender openings anymore :laugh3: - 3-4" and 33s is what I would shoot for, happily I managed to end up there by accident. Started out on 3.5" and nearly bald 32s, that looked decent (I kept breaking things so I never got a chance to wheel it that way) and went to 3.5" and 33s with about 1.5" to 2" trimmed from the fenders which I like the look of and will like even more once I remount my fender flares properly. I haven't wheeled that either, honestly, the breakage has continued... @#@%ing rust :smsoap: looks great though!

What he said! My fenders were already cut when I got my Jeep but I highly suggest it. The biggest mine will get is 4" w/33's when its not a DD anymore. That keeps it a bit more stable than 6-7" on 33's and its still easy to get into and if you have kids they aren't too tall for them to climb into.

oh no i dont have kids hahaha i'm the son. Ok but how much did you have to cut the fenders in oder to fit the 33's on? and what do you use to cut the fenders? just a normal sawsal or what?
