As the title says I need to know what few signs start to show a leaking head gasket. The Jeep is a 97 XJ with the 4.0L auto 4x4. I see quite a bit of relatively fresh oil residue on the passenger side of the block and it doesn't appear to be coming from the valve cover. I replaced the valve cover gasket almost 2 years ago. I am also pretty good about not making a mess when I do oil changes so I'm pretty positive its not from that either. I just changed the oil pan gasket and rear main seal. I took a good hard look at the oil filter housing but it doesn't appear to be leaking and I replaced it about 5 years ago. Oil really starts to show up about two inches back from the front of the block and goes all the way back. I replaced the header recently and got a good look at the driver side of the block and it didn't look bad at all almost no oil residue just the very slight seepage that any motor that old with nearly 200,000 miles on it would show.
Thanks in advance for the help.
