Anyone feel like getting muddy at Hollister on Monday? Seriously thinking about going - will know for sure tomorrow.

I would love to, but will be fishing for sturgeon tomorrow and Monday.

Here's the plan. Anyone who wants to caravan down with Tim, Nate, and I can meet at the Holiday Inn at 9:15. We roll out at 9:30 and will be to Hollister around 10:45. Or you can just meet us there. We'll probably leave Hollister by 3PM.

CB Channel 16.

Overall it was a fun day, minus the trouble with my Jeep. Mud was super thick and there were tons of huge puddles (lakes?) all over. The "Frame Twister" in the obstacle course was so full of water that you couldn't see any of the obstacles in the first half of the course, it was probably 30" deep or so. We only saw maybe 5-7 vehicles all day - including the guy who was waiting for a tow with me at the front gate (he had a blown tranny).

We got there around 11AM then played in the mud at the obstacle course, played in the gulch at the bottom of Truck Hill (where Tim almost flipped in the gulch), then ran to the top of white rock for lunch, then headed back down. We took "Truck Hill Return" and my CPS died at the top of truck hill (which is the only flat portion of "Truck Hill Return"). I had to get towed down by Nate and Tim. Nate in front with a tow strap to pull me, and Tim behind with a strap to be my brakes. No brakes and almost no steering is not a fun way to drive down steep hills but we made it to the front gate.

I got towed home (Thanks AAA Towing!) and tried 2 new CPS units from Auto Zone and Oreilly Auto. Both were DOA and didn't work. Need to go get the OEM part tomorrow. Fun day, too bad my CPS went out - it was an OEM unit and had been installed ~3 weeks ago. Pics in the posts below.

Conditions were very muddy with a 6" layer of gooey mud, with some sticky mud underneath:

We did some playing on the obstacle course (Tim, aka knucklehead_61):

Played in the big gulches near the bottom of "Truck Hill":

Here is Tim nearly putting it on the passenger side. This is seconds after he almost put it on the drivers side 10 feet before:

Then we hit "White Rock Hill" to go eat some lunch at the top. There are two paths to the top, we usually take the right side so today we took the left side (Here's my brother Nate):

At the top of White Rock we ate some lunch. I snapped a photo of a my XJ because it shows the water line from a "puddle" that I went through at the bottom of "Truck Hill" near the gulch that Tim almost flipped on. The water was a lot deeper than I thought. My All-Terrains had a tough time but I did make it through the puddle without needing help. And thankfully the weather stripping on my doors and rear hatch kept all the muddy water out.

I don't have any photos after this because I was being dragged to the front gate. Good times, just gotta fix the CPS now. And get all the sticky mud off the Jeep.

Can we delete those last two pics? We don't need that kind of evidence out there. Oh yeah, back at home:

Looks like a fun day!

I need to make it out there again. Couldn't find the top of the park last time.
I r holister noob.

Glad there was no damage, other than your ego.

Update: I got a new CPS from the dealer and got my spark back...but it still won't start. so I check the fuel rail for pressure and it is bone dry. Uh-oh, I probably have mud in the gas tank because I know that the ring that seals the fuel pump has been loose for awhile. So I syphon the gas and it comes out clear - at this point I am very puzzled. Then I drop the tank and it has 3-gallons of mud/gas a the bottom. So I clean it all up and replace the bad filters with the spare filters that I have. Will button it up tomorrow and hope to have it running again.

One quick question while I have it all apart.

When I use my mouth to blow into the fuel pump outlet tube (purple box) through the regulator (blue box) and out the fuel line outlet (red box), I get lots of restriction and very little air comes out the fuel line outlet. Should the regulator be so restrictive or have I packed it with mud and made it restrictive?

I'll hook up the fuel filter tomorrow and power it up - that will probably give me the answer, just curious if anyone knows. I'd hate to put it all back together and have to drop the tank again.

Not sure but I would say probably very restrictive or should be completely restricted. There should be some type of one way check valve so the fuel system has residual fuel pressure when the engine is off. I think there is typically some type of reed valve or ball and spring that act as a one way check valve. I would imagine there is less restriction if you blow from the tank, or pick up strainer side, through the pump and to line. Then again your guess is as good as mine, I'm sure things are different once there is fuel and pressure in there. Did any dirt get up there?
