I'm now a statistic of Identity Theft.

Someone hacked my paypal account using my credit card number and password. Started charging my Credit Card.

I got the paypal account squared away and cancelled my credit card. Now I'm freaked out and changing all my passwords.

I'm pissed.

currently I have no idea on how they obtained my info or who yet. They registered a new gmail account and marked it as the primary email address for the paypal account.

Double check your credit report and question everything.

How did you find out about theft?

Josh I'm with you. Had every penny drained last year. The transaction took place in Guadalajara Mexico, that is all I know. Nothing ever came of the investigation.

Me Too, last year fraudalent cell phone account in my name tracked to an east LA crackhouse. Fortunately just cost me $200 out of pocket (before I cuaght it) and a lot of paper work. Police report made at the fraud unit, credit report holds, stopping all payments closing and re-opening accounts... just a real paper work circle jerk.

Someone got ahold of my AMEX number and did the same thing. American Express called me right away as I don't normally spend a grand at Macy's.com. I'm not sure how they got the number. AMEX canceled it and sent me a new one. None of my other cards were effected though. It does suck, I feel ya there..................::badpc:

Cancelling everything is the worst part, I would have rather paid the thief in cash, than cancel all my cards and accounts.

How did you find out about theft?

I received an automated email from PayPal that an email address was added to my account at 6:30 AM. Then again at 6:36 AM another email that my primary paypal email was changed.

I noticed this at 11AM and couldnt login to paypal. Called paypal immediately and they put the account under hold and helped me regain access. They cancelled any transactions placed in the last few hours including a fraudulent transaction to withdraw funds from my checking account.

Paypal said the guy got in with my credit card number and possibly the password.

I then called my Credit card company and found numerous transactions from today that I didnt recognize and cancelled the card. Thankfully I was covered and wasnt responsible for any of the transactions.

After that, i called Equifax and placed a fraud alert on my credit report across all 3 credit bureaus.

This is a first for me and I was already broke. So it came at a horrible time even with the holidays coming up.

Happened to me a couple years ago. Loser opened a Target card account in my name and spent $220. I caught it when looking at my credit report. I hadn't been to a Target in something like 3 or 4 yrs so I knew it wasn't me...Notified Equifax, filed a report, signed the affidavit, and I'm clear now, I think. I oughtta check again.
