It's a hi-lift. It is made to lift your vehicle in the worst conditions for a short period of time. a big steel bar that gets kicked around, should have some kind of enamal on it to look pretty at purchase, but i would never expect the "pretty" to last.. as long as the steel itself does.. Function over form:cheers:
It's not a matter of it looking good as much as the exposed metal rusting. A big chunk of rusty metal lifting your vehicle isn't the best of ideas. The old models were painted and the paint seemed much tougher and easier to patch.
if your worried about it rusting away... carry a little thing of nail polish and every time it chips cover it up i wouldnt mind the rust so much... but only cause it would match my jeep lol
I carry one. It is by no means bling. In fact, it is stored inside the Jeep and not visible form the outside at all. I do have solid lift points and much prefer it to crawling on the ground to get a bottle jack under my axle. Besides, a bottle jack can't winch you out of a hole like a Hi Lift. Yes, I have had to do that.

The winch ability is what really sold me on getting one. I know people say it's a major pain to actually do. However, doing that vs being stuck and hoping someone comes along to pull me out ...
i opted for an 8000 lb come along for that winching option that is until i can afford a front mount bumper winch but i'll still carry it for that just in case feature like idk... sliding off a icy road and the nose is hanging off and need tug in reverse
I avoid buying anything weight-bearing from Harbor Freight. The quality just isn't there. The jack stands they had on the shelf had cracked welds already. A local shop load tested a pair and found they failed at half of there rated weight - the respond from HF was that the load rating stamped on the stands was for a _pair_ of them. The spring compressors I bought there bent on the first use.
Go visit a tractor store and get a decent one, even if its not a Hi-Lift brand.
