Heres what I did today...

My frames have always rusted out from the inside instead of from the outside, so I don't really put much stock in undercoating. Proper frame rail drainage, not making the frame rails out of spot welded sheetmetal lasagna, and proper anticorrosive and waterproofing coatings on the inside of the frame are where you can really improve things... sadly a few of these are something that can really only be done at the factory.
 
What'd you use for the undercoating? and how much did it end up costing you?Hrs? I wanna do mine before all the salt from the roads gets bad.

I have never had a problem with the liquid salt if I used undercoating and washed the underside of the jeep every once in a while. Nothing in the world can stand up to the rust of PA if you dont clean the salt off of it.

I have only had one vehicle do that and it was not from PA/NJ (I forget where) all the rest have started with that flake rust and evolved into holes.


^true But it doesnt hurt to coat everything. I even heard of old dudes that used to BRUSH oil on the undercarriage yearly to stop rust / salt from corroding things.


I know a few guys that used to do that. I also know a few guys that sill spray the entire undercarriage with WD-40 and have 60's era cars that are rust free and driven in the winter.

My missing RMS handled that for me last year.

I have set of those (the metric equivalent of a 31x10.5r16, I forget) for the MJ this winter. Need to get them studded and grind out the centerbores on the wheels a little, then I can put them on.

They seem like a decent tire even though I have like 5 miles on them so far. Stiffer than the ones I had but they are new so I expect nothing less.

That and they took hardly any weight at all. 2 of the tires took no weight and the other 2 had a couple oz's

my old boss did that to the tri axle frame before each winter and it seemed to work. we plowed for penn dot. it was also a good way to use up used motor oil
 
I always figured the firewall and frame rail right by the firewall were the most ridiculous areas of the body, but I guess the rear quarters are pretty bad too.

Have I ever said how much I hate rust? Well, I do.
 
Nine months after arriving from California my bud and i finally were able to take it for a ride around the development again.

It'll stay as is for a few more years, then a YJ drivetrane will be swapped in once his frame is no longer able to pass inspection.

Guys, this is HIS Jeep.. LOL.

I am on the lookout for a good frame/tub/title if anyone knows of a project available. My son wants one now... i'll stick with the Grand.

Yesterday
Put new bushings in my bastard pack springs, enlarged the center pin holes to 7/16", and fabbed up some sweet rebound clamps.
