Damnit...apparently you need to swap the timing cover in an OBDI to OBDII swap.

Belt routing is correct.
This motor came from a YJ, guess it was a 91/92 according to Dundy's part#'s above. (Thanks Dundy)
Routing is verified to diagram on shroud of this 96XJ.

Don't some of the YJ 4.0's have the routing that uses the reverse spun waterpump?
I guess it's not an issue if you're using an XJ pump and XJ routing...

if that is the original pump and pulley it looks right to me, since spin direction is dictated by whether the pulley is smooth or not. If you put the XJ pulley on the YJ pump and the YJ pump was ridged... not so much.
I have never had to grind anything off to fix the belt routing, it must be a YJ thing.

YJ longblock with XJ bracketry and waterpump. I dont believe it's YJ specific, i think my 94 had the protrusion and iirc so does my son's MJ. Cutting it off was easier than swapping the cover..
Had to order a water temp sender for the back of head, need to pick up and install then i can hear it run.

She runs.. hard starting and little misfire through the TB. Gonna advance the dist one tooth, should fix it. Had to take a guess at TDC since the balancer had no timing mark.

For what it's worth I happened to look at my new motor for the '98 (it came out of a '94 XJ) and it has the same section you had to grind off. I guess I know what I am doing before I even drop the motor in...

Grind it unless you need to do the RMS and oilpan gasket anyway.. i wasnt feelin it after all this work.

Advanced the ditributor one tooth and it purrs now.
Removed front bumper for towhook install and fender cut up to the markers.
Then i gotta deal with one of those POS China Snorkel installs..

Red 98 XJ. It is a massive turd and delights in kicking me when I am down. Only a few reasons it's still in one piece... the unibody is rust free, and it's a late model, and occasionally everything else is broken and I need something to limp to the parts store with.
As opposed to my white MJ, which is a massive turd and does whatever I ask of it no matter what.
I did the front brakes on the purple pig today, and also fixed a few random small things on the MJ.

Bed has been done for some time now. Been jumping back and forth doing little things here and there. Almost done with my TBI swap.
Working on the harness
Made an adapter for the throttle body out of 1/4" aluminum(had to have Colin do the drilling)
Got a little carried away welding the distributor
Got a stock tbi in tank pump on my shortened fuel sending unit. Drilled a hole in the top and ran it through a vacuum line(pulled it from my distributor since I dont need it anymore:thumbsup: ) and I'll use black rtv to seal it up but it's a perfect fit.
And the O2 bung welded in
I dropped the reluctor roll pin when I pulled it out and it fell in the grass. Can't find it so there's nothing I can do about starting it until I figure out where to get one. But the harness is in and all the hard work is done so hopefully I can start it this week.

Try a magnet yet? Pull apart one of those junk hard drives I know you have and sweep around the general area with it. I bet you find the roll pin in less than 5 minutes... along with 18 other fasteners you forgot you dropped.

Yeah I used a handful of welding magnets. That shit might as well be in another dimension, I can't find it. I'm hoping it's something I can get from a hardware store. I think it would be something like a 1/16 or 3/32 roll pin but it's not like I got a good look at it as it was falling to the ground. You don't see it until it falls out and apparently it usually just falls back into the distributor for most people. You have to use both hands to get it out so it's not like I can prevent it from falling either.
