Got a ticket in savannah doin 80 in a 65. The cop was traveling two lanes over with a flatbed trailor between us and moved over to get me and never offered to show me radar. Can I get out of it since he didn't clock me or follow me while doing "80"?

i asked the state trooper that pulled me over last month to see the radar and he said he's not allowed to show me the radar that they didn't do that. so im actually going to court monday for it. it was raining out and foggy at 10pm at night and i was the third car in line and he was driving in the opposite direction and flip'd a u turn and pulled me over. said i was doing 64 in a 45 on a one way road with 3 people in front of me. BULLSH**,

It sucks getting tickets. I was with a group on our way to a trailride and we passed a state patrol and he clocked all of us doing 65 in a 45. I didn't try to fight it even though I wasn't speeding and knew I wasn't doing so. I just paid the ticket, and it came back to me one day. I was heading back from Tellico doin 71 in a 55 and the trooper just gave me a warning, but it helped that he was a jeeper too.

they dont need to radar you they can pace you and thats an official measurement... quit trying to get out of the ticket and drive the damn speed limit though its posted for a reason... maybe this will teach you a lesson...

Haha your right I needa be doing the speed limit but that hemi in the girls Cherokee will get it. I'm not saying I wasn't speeding though, I'm saying the ticket says he used and calibrated his radar. But how? I was beside him 2 lanes over with a trailor carrying a track how between us. By the time he was close enough to pace I was doing maybe 70.

And don't gimme that lesson bs you know you've sped before. I'm sure more than once. It's cool though I'm not gonna fight it. 5 hr drive to save $100 isn't worth it this time.

Well it's just possible that the police officer was mistaken, got the wrong vehicle, or was just in a pissy mood. Fight the ticket, that is what our court system is for. If more people did that maybe the police would be doing more important police work. Traffic is one of the most dangerous duties, and frankly if I was a cop I'd rather be cracking down on real crime.

Well unfortunately for you, radar is done by sounds. A properly trained officer on radar can recognize the sound of a personal vehicle from the sound of an 18 wheeler. I don't know your exact case, but there is still a good chance that if his radar pinged you, he can recognize that sound as a smaller vehicle and determine that the speed shown is indeed yours.

Logic question... Shouldn't a truck pulling a track be moving at a slower speed than you? So even if he did clock the truck's speed you were probably over that anyways.

Bottom line... Take the time and go to court and ask to have it reduced to 9 over if it is your first offense. DO NOT take a PJC over the reduced fine. Neither one should go on your insurance if this is your first ticket.

RADAR or LIDAR ? LIDAR uses a laser and is aimed directly at the vehicle in question there's a little 'gun like' sight on it. RADAR would be a little more tricky to know you got the right vehicle....

The question about the radar is; can he radar or lidar me while traveling the same direction as I am an by being beside me. I know they have radar in the front and back windows but the side too? And cops don't ride down the road holding their radar guns. Either way I was passing the truck to get to an exit.

Just buy a quality Radar/Lidar/Laser detector like the Escort 8500 like what I bought. Easliy it has paid for itself alteast 12 times in the past 2 1/2 years. And for all of you busted on him for speeding, yes on non-highways doing 70 in a 45 is terrible especially in a vehicle that isn't in good shape for doing that kinda thing. However, on an uncrowded interstate like I-16 that goes to Svannah like he was going on, that highway is never crowded and is a long boring straight line with nothing but trees and farms on the side fo the road. The speed limits are posted low not really for safety or MPG but to taunt you into goin faster and then they can pull you over and give u a ticket and get some money and see if they can get you for anything else retarded like window tint or suspension height or whatever else they can get away with. I got pulled over recently for pulling out of my buddy's front yard where I was parked into a residential street that was not busy and he said it was because I drove down a curb which in the state of GA is illegal. Traffic laws in this state are the most BS of any state. 80 MPH isn't dangerous we all have just been conditioned to think that way.

Thanks Ben I agree. Regaurdless of my speed I was driving an 08 grand. It's not like I was driving my old 94 and shaking all over the highway. The jeep is built to cruise at 80 and be fine. I can't help that speed laws don't keep up with technology. Plus keeping with the flow of traffic is safer imop.

reguardless of how he got you take it to court if he dosent show youre off the hook you also have the right to ask him in court how he got you etc. and any other questions you want relating to the stop. just hope he didnt write alot of tickets that day and would rather spend his day off at home than at court. at the minimum they will likely reduce the points and perhaps the fine because they realize you too are missing a day of work. dress nicely, and be clean shaven and respectful to the judge,if you have a relitively clean record you may get a break, if your a habitual offender just pay it and dont bother wasteing your time in court

I'm gonna go with habitual, I got 2 tickets under 18 and one 4 point ticket at 19 causing me to lose my license. I was worried about the points when I originally wrote this thread. After reading the DDS website, it is my understanding that 6 points isn't grounds for suspension above the age of 18 unless it comes from one ticket.
