HDoffroad unibody stiffener write up (with lots o pics)

I am running the AJ's super rails and when I ordered them he made the legs slightly shorter to work with my frame stiffeners and the pinch seam lined up perfectly. No extra charge either, I just let him know before sending them out.

First set is in manufacturing. If they fit like the drawing, we'll roll them out.

Should be ready to take orders by next week.

Sweet!! good to see the company expanding

I didn't want to start a new thread just to say it's a great product.

Got mine done last night. What a difference! My '99 hasn't even been 'wheeled very hard, but the difference is very obvious. Now I just have to wire wheel some paint off the first one I did and redo some welds. I'm using a 120v booger burner and the first side was with .030" wire. The second one was done with .035" wire and I got much better penetration.

Awesome product, guys.

Just an FYI guys front stiffeys are now on the site.

Nice. They're like the frog arms for the Miata

Those bolt on, no welding, so maybe you can achieve similar results with just bolting these XJ stiffeners.

I can't remember if it was this thread that I asked about using epoxy instead of welding... What If you use the rosette holes for bolts, and also bond the stiffeners to the frame with epoxy?

I am a real newb to welding and I was wondering if it would be ok to have this be my first project?
I figured I could gain lots of experience and upgrade at the same time.
I would be using a lincon 110v.

I would think it'd be fine, but with 110v bevel the edges of the stiffeners for better penetration. I had to do that, too, and it really made a difference.

any input on how much heating it takes and what kind of scraper to use to remove the undercoating? a link to a scraper on the harborfreight site or something would be cool.
on my last jeep i wirewheeled it off and i really hated it...
i also love the idea of marking where the welds will be and just cleaning the paint off that spot

thanks

a twisted wire wheel in my 3.5" angle grinder makes FAST work of it. A very coarse flap wheel was doing an OK job too, till it got completely clogged with undercoating at least. I say hit it with an angle grinder + twisted wire wheel then an 80 grit flapwheel to clean up any residual oxide/paint/primer.

i have a 4.5 inch rusty's lift and running 32inch BFG km1's...when going offroad and just going around corners i hear a creaking sound...i didnt know exactly what it was making that sound do you believe i might just need unibody stiffeners?

Yup, all this. Sucks to be hit by the wires falling out of the wire wheel.
