half door options?

I like the half doors front and rear..I have grandkids that love my tube doors, they can see out real easy..My next job is making half doors all the way around..Then the kids won't fight over the front seat..LOL

Mother Nature finally decided to let me get something done today, so I broke out the newly built leaf pack and the half done half doors. Hopefully the springs will settle and the door hinges won't!!

Very nice, But they don't match..Front has a more round line by the door handle, the rear is more boxed.. I could be wrong but thats what i see...I still like the look.

still not completely done-- good eye, though. I've still got to trim the corners (as you noticed), cut and stick the lip molding on the cut edges, color match the gray, buff-n-polish the paint (once dry), and pin stripe.

actually, the front is cut exactly like the back, but the molding is slightly rounded where it goes over the edge. It's still a work in progress front and rear. All in due time-- I'm waiting on paint to dry for now.....

Like i said very nice job..I'll show these to the grandkids, i bet i'll be making some as soon as they get here to help..I have one set of doors for this..I also like the fact you still have the full door frame, looks clean this way..I will copy these if you don't mind..

I'd be honored to have them copied!!

Looks great!

couldn't have hung them without the hinges!! Thanx again, again, again!!

To each his own...
but that's not my thing.. I don't like it.
Sharp edges/corners. The window track still there...
IMHO :thumbdn:

Huh. I'm surprised how much I like these. I'd love to see you cap the inside instead of just running rubber moulding, though. For such a nice design, it would be a shame to leave it looking half-finished.

Nice work.

always weighing the options, but I'm getting used to the additional room along the door sill. I originally planned to cap them for an arm rest and install some handles, but now that I've driven it the way they are, I'm getting more used to the door sill as a foot rest and my knee as an arm rest. Jury's still out, though.

I thought about that too, but when cutoff wheel met doorskin I decided the angles worked better with the overall lines of the rest of the body.

Looks good, though-- I must admit!

shorty, what did you for a door release? and I agree with others some 16g to cap the top of those would look great.

factory door latches are still in use. You just reach in and pull the lever on the latch.

capping them would require rebuilding both the top (arm rest portion) and the inside structure-- these are gutted all the way to the floor with nothing but the sides and outer panel. It is still possible, but as said before, I'm kind of getting comfortable using the extra space as a foot rest-- still an option, but don't see the benefit as of yet.

better late, than never update!:spin1:

the half doors managed to pass Va. safety inspection last year!!! It took a rather liberal interpretation of "functional factory type latches accessible from inside and outside the vehicle" to convince them that without windows, the factory latch is accessible from anywhere. Between that and the original mirrors still installed, they couldn't find anything else to fail 'em for:gag:

I've got to admit, though that I'll be putting the full doors on in the future-- I just wanted to see if I had a leg to stand on if a cop pulled me over.
