half door options?

I'm ready to start cutting on my spare back doors and can't convince myself that I like my idea. A quick "yeah" or "nay" to the following idea will help--

plan:

same exact cuts for back doors- low in front and high in rear

other options are welcome-- gimme your best shot!

backs are gutted and interior is gone-- same cut-out layed out on the exterior-- I'm just having trouble visualizing it.

Anyone smart enough/ able to Photoshop this into reality? I'm at work all weekend so it may be a couple days, but I'd love to hear some more opinions.

p.s. thank for the vote Camarors8992-- that's "yeah"--1

i vote "nay"...

but...
i would follow your upward cut (in front door) and continue that straight back along the body line. then just bring the window down to that point (just below the pin striping). basically making an extra large rear door window...

I like the functionality of half doors but I'm not a big fan of them on XJ's. My personal preference would be tube doors like the ones from warrior products. But, if you like them then go for it!

Half doors will at least give the body a little more support in a "roll over", tube doors will not.

I say continue the good work, yeah for me!

I like the fronts, they look good. Question though, why would you want to 1/2 the back doors. As far as visibility, as a driver you won't benefit much from it from what I can tell. Plus that opens up the rear for mud and water on the passengers. Just wondering from a functionality standpoint why you would do it.

I want to do my front doors soon but I don't think the back ones would benefit me any. Just curious about it.

primarily doing the backs for air flow for the passengers and, i guess uniformity. I've always thought it looked "half done" with only the front done.

NAY,
NIx the metal around the top. it doesn't do anything but get in the way when you are getting in and out and make it heavier to take off and put on.

Personally I think that a half door looks much better with the top part still on. Right now, I already have 32 combinations of doors/no doors/toob doors, but when I make half doors, they will be a lot like yours. I also agree that having the rears cut too will make it looks more "complete".

One more vote yes

second yes for just continuing the line from the front and cut just down to the pinstripe

so far we've got:

yeah--7 (includes response from S.E.C. discussion and one PM- thanx YJ-Genral and MahnkenVille)

nay-- 3

I've included the cut down to the body line/ pinstripe as yeah, but I know that until I do it, they're "on the fence"
All of that said, I'm cutting on Monday (assuming the weather and Jeep Gods don't throw me a screw ball) and should be painting that evening.

^^ obviously Photoshopped, but the rough plan as it sits-- Thanx a bunch MahnkenVille for the skills I don't have!!

As much as it might be cool-- I don't have a steering wheel in the back and for now, still only bench seat!!

heres a quick shot of my half doors.

they are kinda like tj half doors. i love them. and they keep the mud of of me(for the most part) and keep foreign objects from entering the jeep when laying it over.

I took the plunge and hacked them up-- once the weather turns a little better, they'll be white and match. What'cha think?

P.S. this is before the final filing, and general clean-up. It's much straighter and neater in it's current state.

looks good. I was going to cut the back opposite the front, but I don't have my spare jeep to steal doors from anymore.

dude, those arnt half doors, they are more like 3/4 doors! if your gonna cut then cut. use the same mentality as you did the rear of you jeep

Can we see em on the heep?? I would vote but it's to late...kidding looks pretty cool!!

hahaha what? put in easier terms for my alabama mindset!

i love my half doors. they offer perfect viewing distance esp when you are harnessed in.

as soon as the weather turns and I get a day to prep them for paint, I'll cut the existing hinges and pull the rear doors off. My goal was to get them painted today, but with what seems like 101% humidity, I was afraid to get anywhere near a paint gun.

it's never too late, but it would take a little more welding than I'm willing to do to put them back together now!

mother nature must be paying me back for that oil leak I didn't fix quick enough. It's been just nice enough to get started and quickly pull everything back into the shop before it rains every day since Saturday. I got them smoothed (within reason-- it's a Jeep, after all) and primed. I've only been rained on three times today, so I'm quitting while I'm ahead!! I'm going back out to build my newest set of leaf springs since they're not too sensitive to moisture.

I just heard tornado warnings on the radio-- mother nature is REALLY pissed at me this time....
