Grin's WJ Build Thread

:confused1

Today was a "little stuff" day, and it was kind-of tedious, since I was making it up as I went.

Started with some shade-tree adaptations to make the e-brakes work -- worked great, but coincidentally (?) my lever seems to have gone kaput after testing. :gag::

Then it was time to work on the actual brakes - passenger side I used the stock WJ line, both hard and soft, but had to caress the soft side/caliper mounting point since the JK calipers use a slightly larger banjo bolt. No biggie, it took a little time and patience, but I got er done:

Driverside, I ended up using an old Chebby/Waggy front brake line I had from my Waggy D44 conversion on the XJ - worked great, along with a new RE extended mainline and some homemade bracketry:

I salvaged the shock mounts (again) and got the passenger side completed:

The rear is at actual ride height now, the front has 2" of lift on the way to get out of the stinkbug stance:

I'll have to have a miracle type of week if I am to meet my goal of wrapping it up next weekend...:farmer:

I gots to go to the depot!

Oh, and in reference to your comment in my thread......... Nice "decorative" jeep you've got there. :D

Did you ever finish up your front fender trimming?

LOL ;)

I'm waiting on my "bigger rubbers" for trimming...

Whats left to do?

In the order I plan to do it: (1) finish second rear shock mount; (2) remove POS 247 t-case; (3) rebuild 231 case; (4) install 231 case and driveshafts; (5) set pinion angle in rear once driveshaft is in place (w upper arms); (6) install 2" lift spacer in front; (7) install JKS adjustable track bar - build new axle-side mount as needed; (8) install sessy Frank Z draglink, w/ fancy-smancy feeler guage trick to snug up the insert; (9) weld grade 8 washers to LCA mounts on front axle (square holes? WTF?); (10) figure out WTF to do with the goofy front brake lines, I think I can make them work; (11) bleed brakes; (12) fill diffs and replace rear cover with sessy Riddler cover I won at COfest; (13) put "bigger rubbers" on that I'll be picking up next weekend; (14) test drive and spend next several weeks chasing gremlins.:wierd:

correct, I said nothing about rear -- the front isn't in yet...

desk jockey work week has ended, grease monkey weekend has begun... I did get the rear driveshaft in and the pinion angle set on Thursday... I'm planning on a 2wd test drive with the old t-case before swapping -- I prefer to shake bugs out of as few things at once as possible. My buddy Zach is coming down to lend a hand tomorrow, with some luck she'll be mobile.

lots o work today, very few pics -- front end is together, except for brakes and lower shock bushings (WJ version was incompatible with the JK axle - adhesed BPEs? WTF?)... Scrambled all over the local shops looking for some OEM front flex brake lines that would work, but no go -- believe it or not I need something in the neighborhood of 40"!!

Anyways, fabbed an axle side trac bar mount, got my drag linkZ installed, spacers installed in front (both wheel and lift) - gotta love all the brake lines/abs lines hanging underneath! :gee::

Back is all buttoned up, Riddler diff cover from COfest 2010 included:

And I moved it out of the garage to give the better half some shelter as we go sub-zero in the next couple of days:

The move to the driveway with virtually no brakes was... interesting. Note large puddles of brake fluid in driveway... I have the stock rear driveshaft in, so its mobile in 2wd with the stock t-case... unlikely she'll be road worthy before the family vacation to steamboat this weekend, but getting very close...

BTW, if anyone has any recommendations/references/ideas on where to get some LOOOONNNNGG flexible brake lines, let me know... my interweb search is not going too well. Money is definitely an object!
