Green Sticker

Off Road Vehicle registration, for junk that won't be going on public roads or trails.

How does it affect the Northern California trails?

I know Rubicon is fine, have to do it as an in-and-out to get back to the trailer. Fordyce, there is the mile stretch between Eagle Lakes and Cisco Grove, for Committee Crossing. Full trail is out, or drive to the end and double back.

What else? If one is going to trailer junk, why keep street registration?

I just simplify it, and have my jeep reg'd at my uncle's house is siskyou county. More rural counties only have smog upon change of ownership. I just pay the measly fee for my heep every year to be able to drive it if necessary.
Or, move to oregon/washington and not deal with smog check.

Good Call Johnnie, Phil might know someone who would ship him Washington plates if he were to register his jeep there.

Thanks Opie, I don't think I would have a problem taking an afternoon and going to a DMV to make the conversion, dual-reg and non-op. Just in case it ever needed to go back.

My junk is an open-air dedicated two seater with a welded rear and full hydraulic steering slowly being installed. I'm not going to drive it to the grocery store and I wouldn't dare drive it to the bar. Smog isn't expensive, not much more than the green sticker, and I would keep the catalytic converter anyway.

Basically if I went green sticker I could drop insurance, or they would drop me. But I was looking for insight on what trail access I would be giving up, if any.

If you plan on running trails in other areas consider keeping it legal. Handful of trails in SoCal require tags on roads to get the trails.
Moab has some that require tags as well. Not sure if you plan on going anywhere besides NorCal.

Thanks Daven.

I would like to go back to Moab, but I would probably be running with other elitist buggy assholes so trailering to trail heads doesn't worry me, and I can always wheel the tow rig on the scenic trails, right?

I still pay insurance on the TJ, just in case some asshole rolls it. Costs me like $20 a month, because it never leaves the garage. I'd get full coverage on your green stickered green jeep, just in case.

I-50/I-80:
Barrett is an in and out
Hell Hole is an in and out
Rubicon and Fordyce can be run through, but can also trailer from / to one side
Strawberry can be run through, but I never have.
Hwy 4:
Slickrock / Deer Valley can be run through I think? Its been too long.
4 Lanes East of Fresno:
Bald mountain is in and out
Swamp Lake needs some gravel road running back to the trailers
Dusy definitely needs to be legal enough to run 3+ hours of blacktop, but I've never done it.

For WA, I'd bet you'd be stuck with me anyhow.
For Moab, it could be advantageous to have 1 non-green sticker rig

Also interesting, is that some counties in WA are making the RZR's legal to drive on the road with aftermarket turn signals and license plates. Fair weather conditions (no mudflaps/windshields/wipers), roads 55mph or less speed limit, and seat belts are required - I'm hoping to read the laws enough and see if I cant get them to apply to my junk with some more lights.
