I assume you are talking abut Flight 93.
The simple answer?
Because the familes of those dead don't feel that a little marker next to a PA corn field is as glorious as the Memorial at ground zero.
What is really cheesing you off isn't the use of eminant domain, but that you'd like to see a Flight 93 Memorial 4X4 park setup, and not just a green space

What tends to tick me off is it's bigger than the Vietnam memorial and that whole area it's in. I have no problem with a memorial but I would think 5 acres and a parking lot would do the job not a 2200 acre park on land thats been a family for over a hundred years, that part sucks, trying to yank it like that.

No that is not how it wrks. Eminant domain means the gov, our tax dollars, pays a reasonable fee for the property.

Yeah 2200 acres is a lot of land. I mean even 100 would be overkill but i couldn't imagine the park needing to be any bigger than that. Then on top of that taking away land from people who's families have owned that land and farmed it for their livelihood isn't very patriotic to me! :dunno:

I agree, I used to live on 12 acres, and that was pretty decent sized to me. 2200 is HUGE for a memorial. And I doubt any of the people on that plane would want that land force ably taken to build something to remember them by. On a side note from looking at the website the computer rendition makes it look really nice.

right, but the government decides what that "reasonable fee" is. I guarantee that it is less than fair market value, forget whatever sentimental value the land may have.

Eminent domain requires that you be paid a fair market value and the it is negotiated by the DOJ which has more leeway that the NPS. The NPS can only pay the gov't approved amount.
At least, that's what the letter from the NPS Superintendent says where she tries to explain it in a way that doesn't sound like the gov't is forceably taking someone's land.
