Got a no front plate ticket today

You know its the "Law" to have the front plate installed in California... I imagine I'll get flamed for this.. But I just drilled two hole in the bumper for the plate to attach to...

Bah.

Laws are merly suggestions put forth by the government under the threat of fines and / or jail time. :wow:

I was counting cars the other day while at a stop light in Irvine becuase I dont have my front plate mounted yet. Within 2 minutes, I counted 18 vehicles with no front plates.

My wife got a ticket while parked in the LAX long term parking while we were away. damn em

I ran without a front plate for seven years, only got attention once (and that was a verbal warning). I run one now for two reasons: 1: Hide the winch. 2: Give no reason to pull me over then notice my lack of flares, etc.

Holly got a ticket in her Mini after about four weeks of running without a front plate, boy was she mad at me! (She was going to run one but I talked her out of it, not wanting to drill into the fresh new bumper and all)

I talked my mom out of putting one on her G35, I told her to wait until she gets pulled, then think about it.

I guess I got off pretty light, I'm sure they could have nit-picked and found more on my Jeep to cite me for.

I thought that if the vehicle did not come with front license mounting, you did not have to have it. I do not run one on my XJ, I do on our Tahoe and TJ. I did not run one on my Mustang nor my Trans Am back when I had them.

Luckily, I never got pulled over for it. ""KNOCK ON WOOD""""

I never ran one on my Mustang, or my S10

No they don't care if it came with one. I got ticketed in a AZ reg'd car for no plate. I told the cop they don't issue front plates he said it wasn't his problem talk to the judge. Of course I was at the compton street races. haha

Hey I have a plastic license plate holder sitting on my desk. You can double side tape it on.

Well, the thing is, almost ALL vehicles that are meant for road driving come with provisions for front and rear plates. The law isn't going to care if yours no longer does because of modifications you've made to make it perform / look better OFF road :).

In SoCal if you run a light at an intersection where there are cameras, they take a picture of the front of the vehicle. If no front plate resides there, they cannot send the ticket to you, and Uncle Sam frowns greatly upon this ;).

I did in fact get the front plate ticket once or twice, on my VW Bugs mostly. The baja in particular.

Now I, too, zip-tie my plate to the grill area. While it probably doesn't satisfy any legal obligation I have to display it correctly, I believe it could be argued at a traffic stop well enough to get me out of a ticket.

Also, keep in mind that cops are people too, and if that particular person/cop does NOT like 4x4's for one reason or another, he's more apt to site them and leave the Mercedez and rice-rocket crowd alone. Just a thought :).

Not true, i know 2 people that have gotten tickets from cameras and there were multiple pictures taken and none were of the front plate...

Wow, they are getting good then. I wasn't aware they made a virtual portfolio of the offender nowadays! :yap:

they have camera's about 25 ft back of the light, so they can get a picture of you back end too.

haha they had theyre face zoomed up close, rear plate, and a shot of the intersection... i couldnt believe it.

YEP. I have heard the excuses from the government for front plates about traffic light cameras and when my friend got a ticket in my car and it showed up in the mail with pics of the back of the car, pic of red light and the car not in intersection yet (with speed listed too and time after red) and other shots its clearly bullshit.

Buy a trailer :D

Then I have to buy a truck to tow it with...

and then a camper to live in for when I get thrown out for continually dragging home hunks of metal.

The fact is the front plate gives them a good reflective surface for radar to bounce off of when they're checking your speed.

I think I'll spray the damn thing flat black then put it back on.

Just spray a flat clear coat (non-reflective) over it to reduce the reflectiveness (word?).

If you paint it black, your back to square one, same as not having a plate... maybe.

Plus none of that stuff works... (they did it on mythbusters lol) just rivet it on and be done, pay the 10 bucks and your good. :D
