Gonzo the XJ Wagoneer build thread

I love my miller at work. It's got some goodies too, like a spool gun and 1/2" steel welding table. Would love a setup like that. I should sell my Lincoln 125 HD and just wait for a deal on the miller. What's the other brand that miller makes, and are they good also?

Replaced fuel injectors with some 700s. I don't know if anything was wrong with mine, but the better atomization of the 4 holes should be good. Right when I was done I was tightening the battery terminals, and it cracked in half. Had to make a last minute run to get a new one 5 minutes before the store closed. We'll see how this next tank of gas goes with the new injectors.

Ride report with the new injectors:
Defenite improvement in acceleration to highway speeds and smoother at mid-rpms. Idle is a little choppier I think, but that could still be my TPS. I haven't installed the new one yet. Overall the $55 on new injectors was worth it.
Just an FYI, a buddy bought new injectors for his car. He installed them, started up the engine and almost immediately hydro-locked his engine. Turns out the brand new injector was missing either it's pintle cap or pintle or something and flooded the cylinder enough to destroy his engine. Just something to look for.

From what he said, there weren't any guts in the injector. I didn't see them, so I don't know what was missing from them exactly. He said his cylinder was full of gas. Don't remember what he said broke, if it was a bent rod or whatnot, but I loaned him the engine jack to put the junkyard motor in. Fuel is mostly incompressible like water and can cause the same hydrolock issues.
I got the yellow ford 700s with 4 holes. Easy swap and seems to be worthwhile. I'll let you know if I get any MPG increase in a week or two.

I picked up some 35s. Had to trim the front fenders this time, so goodbye super clean waggy. Hello, gnarly wheeling. Picked up 4 BFG MT KM2 in 35x12.50r15, with probably 75% tread. My 33s were km2s already, and they have treated me good.
What kind of trim is everyone using on the edges of your cut fenders? The door edge stuff looks too narrow.

Haha. Thanks. I've been doing a bunch of maintenance on this thing the last week. New o2 sensor got rid of the gas smell at idle. Fixing the burnt connectors on the brake light switch made it so I actually have brake lights when my headlights are on. Found out they hadn't been working properly for who knows how long. It's actually running really nice now. I've been getting rid of the little quirks that Gonzo has. I also found that the heater /air controls light up... who woulda known. Bulbs were bad, but I just thought that it didn't light up this whole time. I also had my buddy throw it on the lift and we checked out all the tie rods, u joints, ball joints, etc. Everything looked good except a boot on the pitman arm was cracked.
The rear springs are starting to sag a little. They're rubicon express 6.5", but i think theyre semi custom to be a bit firmer. My buddy was friends with one of the guysbat RE. From what I hear, sagging a little is normal on those leafs. Ooh well, it's tall enough as it is and the springs are probably close to 10 years old.
Now it's time to go wheeling! I'm getting the itch. ..

if those are 10 year old RE springs, they were still legit back then, these days, I've heard their leaves are lower quality ...

My friend who I bought the jeep from, was friends with a guy at RE. He lifted the jeep about 10 years ago with the RE long arm kit. Wheeled it once or twice a year and then it would sit the rest of the year. I heard they're not the same company they used to be, but these ones are from their hayday.

I'm so sick of this damn closed cooling system. I always have issues getting air out. I drove towards the Con a couple weeks ago, when I parked it, it spewed water from cap. I figured it was a loose cap, refilled and it's been good. Gonna take it easy up the hill next time.
It's been running a little below the middle temp line. Replaced thermostat today, just for safety sake. Now it's halfway to middle line on gauge. I also drilled the thermostat with a bleed hole on top and bottom to allow air to escape. I haven't popped the sensor on the head yet, but damn. So annoying getting air out of system.
I'd like to convert my Renix closed to open system. Plan on using same radiator, with the "add a fill port" up high. Where do I plumb the syphon line from overflow tank?

I did this swap using the Dakota filler neck spiced into the upper rad hose got rid of the metal lines and plummed the hoses straight to the heater core from thermostat/water pump

so jelly.

where did you go ?

Up mormon emigrant trail. Started getting decent by silverfork rd. Took it 2 miles to 88, but we heard there was a ranger by the gate at the top warning people, so we took some side trails. Love the snow.

It's been a few months. Not a lot of new mods done to it. I did get an air horn for it. 1.5 gal tank and compressor mounted in the rear fender cutout in the cargo area. Mounted the horns on my roof rack. Freaking loud. Did a couple anow runs up mormon emigrant trail. Those were fun. There's quite a bit of snow up there right now. Might go again this weekend. My buddy went with me in his Yota on 40s. He just plows through everything. These 35" BIG MT KM2 aren't the best in snow, but they do allright. It's be nice to have a set of snow tires that I could throw on. I've got a wet cargo area. Do the main seals leak around the hatch area? Whenever it rains the back part of carpet in the hatch gets real wet. Gotta fix that.

Anway, on to the jeep porn
