Golden Mtn - Flog: Nov 12-14, 2010

At this point I don't know if I'll be ready either:flamemad:

Perhaps the replacement ECM that should show up this week will give me hope again, otherwise I'm about ready to drop a 4.3 chevy and a 700r4 in the thing and drive on.

I got a 4.3 for you start with. lol Needs a head gasket tho...

I figured we'd slap the gears in the Samurai and be ready to go but now I gotta order another carrier... So, It'll be a bit longer. Dad and the Samurai might not make it...

I just found yesterday that my exhaust manifold is cracked pretty badly. I got a APN header and Brown Dog engine mounts ordered. Also have a set of freshly painted JCR sliders that need installing. If I can find the time to get all this done y'all might just see me there.

im hoping to have the 3link installed by then. but if not ill bring the tj.

My APN header should be delivered today, just need to install that, 2 motor mounts, ECM, axle shafts, unit bearings, steering kit, possibly a new track bar, and probably some orange top ford injectors, then hope that nothing else pops up before the flog. At least it's a fairly short list.

May also clean all the dust out of the interior that came home with me from Harlan.

Good grief. If I had a list that long I'd never make it.

My problem ain't how long it takes me to do a project on the XJ, but rather finding time to do one. I turn wrenches for a living (although not on cars) so most things I do to a vehicle go fairly quickly once I get started. Having a 16 month old and a wife that works 50+ hours a week really cuts into my free time. I planned to attend Harlan and had several things to get done before I went. That didn't happen. The sliders in my garage were one of those projects, and they are still laying in my garage although they are painted now.

Oh btw, got my APN header yesterday. The Brown Dog mounts just shipped today.

All right, I called and talked to Anthony at GMP. He said the park will be open for riding that weekend and that we can get in on Friday to wheel.

I need to e-mail our riding plans to the park and they will make it available to us. I will send them an e-mail and get everything lined up.

He also said if you need a cabin or RV site you will need to register and prepay one night online.

We have about a month till we wheel so lets get those rigs finished up and have some fun Flogging our junk.

I gotta work on friday and we gotta take the girls to school and pick em up around 2. I wont get there till at least 9 maybe as late as 11pm... id rather get there earlier but I don't think its gunna happen.

I will probably ride on Friday and Saturday. Sunday will be iffy.

We are now on the ride calendar. Below is the response from GMP. Please be sure to contact them for making reservations for the camping/RV/bunkhouses.

I've got a couple of more tricks up my sleeve for tonight to try to get the jeep running reliably again. If they fail, I'm either out or looking for a passenger seat for Saturday the 13th.

Well I was reminded last night that I am commited to going on a camping trip with the wife the same weekend as this ride, so I guess I am out even if I get my junk fixed or not. On a positive note, I got my sliders on this weekend and painted my new APN header with some of that VHT ceramic paint.

They have camping at GMP. Two birds with one stone.

Did you check your header out really well? Only reason I ask is the tube for #2 cyl on mine was bent with the seam of the tube in the outside middle of the bend and there was a crack you could see daylight through. Also the 2 mounting surfaces weren't on the same plane.

Big thanks to Tyler at RSOR for welding up the crack! I went ahead and mounted it thinking once it got tight that the 2 surfaces would even out, but after starting the engine, there was a definite leak. Gonna re-torque the bolts this evening and check again but not feeling too good about it, and I probably trashed the warranty having it welded.

Guess it really doesn't matter right now since it still doesn't run right, but at least the exhaust backfires are gone now the the cracked stock manifold is gone.

This is a camping thing with some people she works with. They are going to Bledsoe Creek in Gallatin. I don't even remember her asking me to go, but evidently she did. I was probably doing something and just agreed to whatever. Anyway, it looks like I am gonna be hanging out with a bunch of bankers that weekend.
