I've spent the last year getting things on my XJ the way I wanted them. Just put on a new set of brakes and changed out the front and rear diff. fluids not two weeks ago. So today i'm waiting in line to get out of the parking lot at school, stuck in bumper to bumper traffic....gridlock. It was nice outside so I had my windows down and I heard a loud thud followed by tire squeeling. I look to my left and I see a chick in a Acura Legend had backed out of her spot and into the car behind her and apparently didn't feel the thud. Well when she realized it she freaked and threw it in drive and slammed the gas down to the floor. At the time she was probably about 50 ft away from me, with a grass median in between us. She jumps the median and right before she jumps it (concrete curb she hit probably doin about 20mph ish, I thought, ohh sh** she's gonna hit me!

Unfortuneately there was no where I could go. 4Runner inifront of me, car behind me, and a Ranger parallel parked on my right, I was screwed. Only thing I could do was hang on for the ride. She slammed into me right at my back drivers side tire, right at the gas tank and pushes me into the Ranger parked next to me. Then she throws it in reverse and backs up, tearing out my rear fender flare the the plastic part of the bumper right behind my tire.

The damage to my Jeep due to the force of impact are the messed up plastic pieces behind the tires on both sides being ripped off, fender flare on drivers side ripped off. Rim scraped up on drivers side, GLASS in my $400 Bridgestone A/T's that haven't even been on 6 months. As for the passengerside, the entire right rear quarter piece (all the metal around the back window on the passenger side) is completely bashed in, as well as the rear hatch on the passenger side from the impact of being pushed into the Ranger, right rear tail light assembley completely smashed, including the bulbs and the wiring harness inside. Here's the kicker, the impact pushed my rear axle to the right, which I fear bent the frame with it. Meaning, the Jeep i've had a year and love, is probably going to be claimed totaled. Should hopefully get the insurance company to take a look at it tomorrow. Right now it sits at the body shop, and i'm Jeepless.

Sorry for the long post, it just pisses me off to no end that the things I work my ass off for get wrecked by a careless IDIOT.

good suggestions, but when i'm not at school i'm at work....to pay for the jeep...still owe alot on it.

I will however, if it's totalled, buy it back, probably pretty cheap, and pull the engine and tranny out and sell them.....as my "new jeep fund"

Sorry to hear about the injury. I am glad you are okay. I would take a civil suit on her for it. Get it checket out and get a few opinions, there are some really good body shops around. and get her for ever stupid driving thing she does. I hate bad drivers!

Got any pics?

yeah i got some pics. but I wanna wait till we get the insurance thing settled and whether or not its going to be claimed totaled.

In all seriousness I knida hope it does. Retail value around here is 8 grand for one of these things. I could still come out ahead a couple grand after paying off my loan, and would get me a decent base to go out and buy another one. If they don't, i'll never get anything back out of this one.

Well I went down and looked at it again today. The good news is the axle doesn't appear to be shifted that much, if at all....which is good. I guess I was just looking at it from a bad angle. It appears that its mainly cosmetic damage, and I couldn't find anywhere where the frame was kinked or anything, so thats promising.

I did however notice the rear bumper is going to have to be replaced though. Apparently the pressure in being squeezed b/w two vehicles, was relieved in the bumper by it bending down, right at the tail pipe, which I didn't catch yesterday while I was assesing the damage.

Also their insurance company is going out to look at it tomorrow, so I should have an estimate by then.

my only concerns now are, is the axle still bent at the wheel, is the rim bent, and what about the piece of glass sticking out of my tire?

Hows the body damage? Is it wose than you thought? Did you drive it home or get towed, I assume towed. make sure you take your own pictures for your own files. good luck

The body damage is pretty bad in the back. Pretty much every body pannel from beyond the back doors is gonna have to be replaced...left and right quarter pannels (the parts with the glass in them) both rear fender flares, both of the plastic pieces on the corners of the bumper, the rear bumper itself, the entire rear hatch, not to mention my right light assembley...busted the entire essembley to a million pieces....including the light bulbs and their holders and assembleys. Looks like it's gonna take several weeks to get this thing fixed....which means i'm back in the KJ and my moms stuck in a rental (hopefully another KJ if we play our cards right). So atleast it being winter time, i'm still in a Jeep.

The good news is their insurance company told us tonight to go ahead and rent a vehicle comperable to my Jeep (which is why we're getting an SUV and I know Enterprise rents KJ's....I see them running around all over town), and once they claim them liable for the damage, they will contact Enterprise, transfer the information and the billing over to them, and refund us their money. They're clearly at fault, and the lady I spoke with tonight said they're pretty much at fault...the only thing holding everybody up is they can't get ahold of the owner of the vehicle (the mother of the girl that hit me)....since the vehicle is registered in her name.

Still waiting to hear what the final word is tomorrow. Today I was able to get a much better look at the damage and crawl around underneath. I wasn't able yesterday b/c of all the plastic on the ground from my shattered tail light assembley.

I'll definately keep yall posted on the latest and post some pics once they've been claimed liable and I think it's OK to post them.....meaning I don't want to right now incase we end up having to go to court over all this stuff and it becomes a REAL big mess.

So did you get out and go apesh|t at the girl? If she had just stopped and relaxed when she hit the first guy she wouldn't have had to repair like four cars.

What a damned idiot. Let her insurance company pay for it all and get that sucker back.

typical teenage femal driver....I appologize if that offends anybody on this board, but damn, for the most part its true!

I about knocked out her mom for disrespecting my mom....yelling at my mom like its her fault and referring to her (while speaking to her) as LADY rather than m'am...I about smacked the crap out of her.

The sad thing is its not the girl holding everything back....its the mother...who refuses to contact her insurance company even though they've tried several times to contact her. The girl has admitted several times that it's her responsibility, and she knows it. Which I'm glad to see she's TRYING to take responsibility for her stupid mistakes.....now if only her mom would wake up and realize there's no way they're NOT liable, things would be moving SO much smoother.

So as it stands right now, two people are with out a vehicle...me and the kid who USED to drive the truck that was demolished. The ranger was roughly a mid to late 80's model, so I don't know how much their gonna push getting money for it. I'm working on getting a copy of the security tape that was conveniently pointed to the area the incident occured, just incase they try to pull anything stupid.

"holy shit, this girl got her license.....thats bad totally shitty i know that woman in general suck at driving and me being a girl i totally agree i bet this girl was driving her car thinking it was a bus....i drive a lifted tj and i'm like totally fine at driving it, without taking out innocent objects and i must say that it embarresses me that girls have to make me look like an idiot. any guy i know will tell you one i'm a girly girl and two that i can drive very well."

This is a direct quote form my girl friend who i let read the post and who is disgusted with teh lack of driving skills of other women. She drives a lifted tj and she does it well and makes me proud when i hear my frineds complain about their g/f's and i can brag about my girl friend.

Sorry to hear about your experience; it really is a pile of suck.

FWIW, expect the insurance company to come back and offer you only book or just under it for your XJ. Despite the fact that it's obviously visually modified, they *will* try to lowball you. If you've got receipts for things like tires, bumpers, or other modified items that may have been damaged have them handy for when they start contacting you; they make great bargaining points for driving up the valuation to something more realistic.

BTW, if you do get into haggling over the valuation, be sure to compare each subsequent valuation to the previous one. I went through this about this time last year, and it was amazing how on one valuation I'd have power windows, but not on the next one. Then I'd get the windows back and lose the aftermarket stereo.

Not trying to make your life any worse at this point, since you really don't need it right now. Just wanted to point out that you should be prepared for a fight with their insurance company.

I was hoping you'd chime in here, I remember reading a while back about you losing your XJ to a flood and having to fight with insurance. Believe me, last night I was up till 2am thinking waaaaaay ahead to things just like that. I've managed to pull up the receipts to my tires, apline stereo, brand new brake pads and rotors, & differential fluid. Those are the most recent things, thats all i'm really concerned about. As far as the ZJ rims go, they were on there when I bought it a little more than a year ago.

good for you man! got youself a keeper there! :) Thats why i said sorry if that offends anybody, but for the most part its true....and right there is the exception.

Mother(?)
Was the driver behind the wheel a Student Driver?

Yes she was. As am I. Her vehicle is registered in her mothers name, as my Jeep is also registered in my moms name. So its not like she and I can just settle this on our own, everything's gotta go through our parents. Difference is I know how to drive. I may not have the fastest reflexes in many situations, but when i'm behind the wheel, i'm ALWAYS on the look out for the other driver, and other hazards on the road, and doubletime when I have friends with me. I drive VERY defensively. I don't excessively speed (5mph+ MAX over the limit). Maybe thats cause I took the time to learn.

The reason I asked it that She seemed easily rattled. Novice drivers tend to do those kind of things, esp if they have a naggy parent in the right seat.

You will learn through experience:
a) You don't actually know how to drive well.
b) It doesn't matter who had right of way, if an accident occured, and you could have prevented it by yielding, you are also responsible.
c) Unless someone was injured, accidents are nothing to get ones panties in a knot over.
d) Statisticly, a Young Male driver is more accident prone that a Female of the same age and experience. Your insurance rates will reflect that.

That's not a negitive commentary, just some stuff I picked up along the road :)
