Global Warming Strikes Again

Thank you for clarifying. . . and of course they will never be happy. Someone will always be unhappy. That's just life.

As for the coal industry and Obama. . . well, we will just have to wait and see what happens there. I think it would be irrational to pull the plug on coal. But 'clean' coal is a utter farce. If it were up to me and I were in Obama's shoes, I would fast track nuke power plants, halt coal power plant construction, and start dumping money into coal to synthetic fuel processes and other alt-fuels.

You are probably right that truely clean coal is unattainable, I hope you are wrong though. The problem with walking away from coal and fast-tracking nuke plants is that the US is the Saudi Arabia of coal. Nuclear fuel is much more scarce. In North Dakota there is a coal gasification plant where alternative coal useage technologies are being developed and improved, but to some extent greenhouse emissions are just traded for potential contamination of groundwater and other air contaminnats. I don't see abandonment of coal as something that will fully take place.

I never said walk away from coal. I said that we should redirect our coal resources into alternative fuels: i.e. synthetic fuel. South Africa's entire gas supply is generated through synthetic fuel production from coal.

You hadn't heard of that before?

The problem is, of course, people are protesting it already...just like Hyperion wanting to build the new oil refinery in BFE South Dakota, and there is a group who has promised to tie up the process in court and force Hyperion to spend more money on lawyers, fighting the appeals and injunctions....

Nothing satisfies some people....

No I hadn't heard about that project. I all for it, and we really need those types of refineries to come on line.

The proposed Hyperion site is ten miles from my house...I am all for it. My standard line is that if the site is rejected they can build it in my back yard. I think some people are afraid of their property values going up.

Its not BFE though:rolleyes:, but we can see BFE from here.
