96 Jeep xj sputter

Guys while my Jeep is sitting still at either a stop light or in park it starts sputtering and running rough. When the light turns green I give it gas and the sputtering will go away it might backfire some but it smooths out and runs good down the road then does it again when I’m sitting not giving it gas. What could cause that?

Sounds like it might be running rich? Maybe get the injectors flow checked and see if you have leakers?

When was the last time it had a tune up? Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and fuel filter? Also check the coil for cracking.

A good study of the condition of all the vacuum lines would be my first step.

If you haven't taken out and cleaned the IAC that would be my second step.

Having the injectors serviced would be my third step.

I will check both. I replaced all the last year or year before last. I think maybe it had water in the fuel cause it ran fine this morning. I’m not positive if it fixed itself we will see.
