i bought a carrier for the front and a set of ring and pinion for the front and rear of my wifes 97 TJ. i also got the master install kits to go with that.

i have never done ring and pinion and would like some experienced help please.

anybody willing to help? how much would you want???

I'd be like a fish on dry land outside of my shop and tools.
I'm located 1 hr south of Chicago.

i do have just about every tool you would need (shop press, air tools, hammers, tons of sockets, etc..etc..etc. mac tools, matco tools, snap-on, craftsman, harbor freight, etc..etc.. tranny jack, engine hoist, etc...etc...) except the speciallty stuff (and knowhow) needed for gear install. otherwise i might attempt it myself.

so i just figured you could bring those.

plus i have the entire front axle assembly torn apart waiting for gears already.

:( please (besides my wife just checked the credit card balance and informed me that what was supposed to be a $3000 upgrade turned into almost $8000. i'm running out of money.) and please don't take this the wrong way and get upset but if i drive down there with 2 jeeps i'll spend so much on gas that i could pay a shop here to do the install. i would prefer you do it since you work with jeeps. the shop here is a classic and hot rod shop. i've never seen a jeep there. :(

thanks,
alex

Alex, it's just a bit to far...through...Chicago...
Besides I got so much goin on no time for a road trip as of now.
Maybe check back in a few weeks if you dont find someone closer.

cool.

i read the instructions that came with the gears and did some research online on gear install writeups. i figured i'm just gonna go visit my MAC tool guy and giving him a shoping list and add some more stuff to my ever growing tool collection. a friend of mine who is a fabricator also wants to do his gears but doesn't want to pay anybody. he has some old axles laying around, so we might take those apart and re-build them once or twice till we get the hang of it. it would really be nice if i could learn how to do this since i'm gonna be re-gearing my other 2 jeeps within the next 1 to 2 years. that could get expensive if i always pay somebody else.

but if i absolutely can't figure it out then me might just have to take the roadtrip after all.

thanks,
alex

PS: if you have any pointers that aren't in the "typical" setup instructions, that would be appreciated.
