Gas Tank Skid Plate & Exhaust System

I've got a Skid Row gas tank skid plate and a stock exhaust system. When the engine is running, especially when it is started or turned off the exhaust pipe knocks against the skid plate making an annoying noise. It's not hurting anything, but does anyone have any suggestions on ways to fix this?

Thanks,
Robert

cut it off:D ;) No really you should be able to have an exhaust shop bend it over enough to keep it off the skid unless you are capable of doing it yourself, that is.---Kyle

the only thing you do have to watch out for when you bend it away from the skid is not to bend to far into the leafs. When you flex your leafs will contact the exhaust. I cut, bent, removed rubber deal to get mine to work(not hit skid and leafs when flexed). Jeff

I had this problem with the stock gas tank skid. Make sure your exhaust hangar is straight and tight.

my stock exhaust did that on my 96 when i bolted on the OEM gas tank skid i got from a boneyard.

the metal on metal of the hanger on the skid, rattling around drove me nuts!
so after a week or so( when i had time) i took a look and saw what i could do-

simple!

i ran a FAT black wire tiearound the exhaust hanger where it was making contact with the skid.

now instead of metal on metal, it was plastic on metal=QUIET!

cost-about $.08
result=great! (but ghetto :P

Would it work if I simply eliminated the rubber piece and secured it metal to metal, or would the exhaust pipe wind up with metal fatigue and break?

I had that exact problem with my Tomken skidplate vs exhaust hanger. It rattled like crazy especially when I first started the jeep. The fix was super easy - I had some used rubber hoses laying around that are the water hookups for a washing mashine. I used the "HOT" hose because its thicker and can handle the heat from the exhaust. I cut a 1-2" length off and cut it lengthwise down one side so it could open up. Then I simply slipped that over the metal part of the hanger that was hitting the skid. The rattles went away instantly and that rubber peice has stayed put for 2 years.

just use the standard exhaust hanger. That rubber stocker sucks anyway because they tend to crack and fall apart over time. I would post a pic of mine but I don't know how to get a pic up here.
