Fundraising Idea

In an attempt to come up with new and innovative ideas to generate land use donation funds, I ask that the chapter pool together and bring some ideas to the table.

One idea has been mulling around in my head for a while, and would like to get some feedback from you all.
That idea is to have a jeep parts swap meet. I have, as I'm sure many of you all have old jeep parts cluttering up your garage and storage units. I had intentions of turning some of my parts around for some personal cash, but would now like to donate whatever I make on them to the Sierra Chapter's Land Use Fund. We could start a swap meet thread, or have it at sombody's house and maybe have a bbq. Anyways just throwing it out there to see if there is any interest.

What ideas do you have?

I will also be starting another thread for a 2009 Sierra Chapter merchandise sale shortly.

Thanks for reading and supporting the Sierra Chapter.

Sounds good.

Also, we should charge every person in California, Oregon, and the other outlying areas a 500 fine if they don't wheel their xj.

:)

I was trying to find an inexpensive place to get custom license plate frames a little while back... I thought that would be cool... for a wheeler or a daily driver (since my wheeler doesn't wheel).

Good idea, although some of us already have cool plate frames:D

We could have a bake sale!

Cookies - It seems to work well for Girl Scouts.

Seriously, Thanks Ben for taking this issue on. Fund raising is tough, I guess Team NAXJA did well with tee-shirts but I have seen theses sour. The other thing that is disappointing in Fund raising (my opinion) is some cool raffle prizes that are donated and then the raffle does not make much money.

OK, Here's a suggestion: Turn this type of venture into for proceeds for trail use. Read the whole thread if you haven't already.

I had thrown out the Idea before of having a meet and great/Car Wash/BBQ/. If we get a large enough turn out this could be a good thing. If we can get it to the general public (not just NAXJA members) it could be even better. This is something that we could take a few months to plan, advertise then execute. If we can find a "high traffic" / spacious area to do this. Trying to keep it simple but think out of the box at the same time.

With the carwash, we can set our rigs up for people to see. I wont say i car show because thats not really what it is. give people something to do not just get their cars washed.

I seem to recall the Rock Zombies having a yearly carwash up around Sac. with really good results.

However, I think the main selling point is the girls in bikinis washing the cars. Anyone know a large amount of well endowed women willing to wash cars for a couple hours?

so the ideas so far:
1.car wash
2. donate parts and sell em

first off whats the fundraiser for ???? FOF? or are we gonna pick a trail afterward? we should advertize for the speficic cause and then

ive got an idea
what if we all donate random lift parts that we might have lying around and then throw the "thrown" together lifts on ebay to start, someone could head this department. it could be a ongoing thing.
and that way we wont lose out if its a raffle with very little tix sold for good prizes,

next:
what about a car wash not too far from prairie city on a day that we could try to throw a bbq & raffle there, that is sell like tri tip, hot dogs and burgers, potato salad chips sodas, easy and simple, sell it for like 5-6$ so people actually buy it, maybe get people/bussiness's to donate the food for the bbq, and then at the same time be advertising for the car wash nearby, i mean we are all 4x4ers, so maybe we should post up on some naxja/pirate/other jeep forums/craigslist/etc.... a few months or weeks ahead of time for the bbq and car wash day, basically advertizing to the 4x4 community. also advertize at prairie city and cntact prairie city about it. i say prairie and not hollister cuz its close to sacto. we could do the same thing on teh same day at hollister with another squad as well,
so they can go wheel, get some cheap bbq and then get their car washed. if we get say 6$ per person for bbq plus all tips and donations at the same time, have a raffle at the bbq, where tix are on sale for like 2 months or something at like 8$-10$ a pop , go to rubicon express, dan at ruff stuff, maybe 4wp parts, autozone etc etc and ask for gift certificates and parts and then raffle it all off. we could also raffle off teh seirras chapters help in installing a lift or something too.....

i think a well advertized bbq raffle and carwash day could generate alot of money and we need to pick a cause. im willing to go around dressed up all nice in my jeep asking those places for free stuff and maybe contact prairie city....

i could prob get chops (the steakhouse i work at) to either donate some beef to cook or to at least hook up the good prices worst case scenario for some free advertising.
if we could get the space we could invite vendors or something too to advertise and sell parts at booths or something

maybe have a kinda simple 4x4 work shop for youngins to watch a lift get installed or something, or how to begin to start to diagnose driveline vibes or something like that....

if we advertize on all 4x4 boards say minimum at prairie city for an all day thing we get say 1000 extra people on top of the normal croud to come over,
at 5$ a pop with all "donated" food (some free , some we buy etc...) that would 5000 per site for food, say we can raise a couple thousand with the raffles, and some more with the car washes at say 7$ a car any car....
we could generate some serious money if we are willing to do this....

we could supply tables and chairs etc.. i also started a small catering thing a while back so id have no problem helping with or doing the food as well or at least helping supply the food. anything we would need to rent for teh day(like a big portable bbq, we could pay back after teh day, i might even be able to get a hookup on a nice bbq and then it could be sold at the end of the day too.......

I think if we can get enough donations we can do both. But primarily for FOF. I can go through the Tail Wind (base paper) advertise there once we get a firm date.

The food is a good idea. Meal type thing for 5-6 bucks.

Once we get everything planned as far as the what, the next biggest thing will be the where. We need the room to do this, but still have it be in a populated area.

i think we should do both for sure, and still on teh side piece together a lift and sell it on ebay every so often....

big ol grill would be nice, do you guys think doing the bbq and raffle at prairie city would be good?
or somewhere else, anyone have any ideas????
