A while back I was on my way to a local run. My rig started balking and occasionally stalling while driving. In the past that has been my signal it's time for a new fuel filter. So, I swung on into Schucks (the only place along the way) and picked up a new fram filter and a spare. Got out to the trailhead and put the new one in. Wheeled a while and the Jeep started acting up again. On the way home it was way worse than before. I checked the pressure on the fuel rail and it was in spec but, there was very little flow. So, I replaced the pump. No change. Finally went and got a wix filter, put it on and Jeep is fine. Seems the new fram filter I got is junk. Cost me a new Bosch fuel pump. I will never run a fram fuel filter again. Vent over:flamemad:

You changed your fuel filter at the trail head?

Of course you made sure none of the fuel spilled on the ground and that you properly disposed of the old filter once you got back to civilization, right ;)

The larger question is: "Why are you going though so many filters?" Do you have crud in your tank?

The only fram products that I will buy are the air filters.

Yes sir I did change my filter at the trailhead. I put my Jeep on a trailer and cleaned my mess up with rags and took them home. I'm not going through "so many filters" really. My filter was about 2 years old when it started acting up. Replaced it with a junk Fram then, had to replace that one. Schucks was the only parts store along my route so, that's where I got the filter. I just won't be doing that again....

I haven't ever had any issues in all the many years I have run Fram Oil and Fuel filters on any of my vehicles, or any of the ones I have ever worked on for anyone else... I will never run their air filters personally, but that is just because I prefer to run K&N filters for air filters... But I can understand your rant.... and can't say that I at all blame you for it, I am sure I would be feeling the same way if/when I was in the same boat!!

If you are running K&N flat panel take the big hose off that goes from the airbox to the throttle body and stick you hand down there. That fine black stuff you feel, thats what the K&N lets pass thru the filter.

I've been using Motorcraft FL1A on my XJs for a few years now. They're a little bigger, and especially in the '92, the oil pressure comes up a lot faster after it's been sitting a while. Like everyone else, I went through my 'Fram phase' but it took way too long for the pressure to come up, and then there's all the horror stories posted here and elsewhere.

I go with KN hp3001, all the way, although this past week I was hankering for an oil change and no one had my 3001 so I had to go with stock size hp2003 I think, about half the size of the 3001.

Wix only for my jeep
And if you guys want a bigger jeep oil filter
Go with a wix 51515
2x as big

Is that straight bolt on or do you need an adapter?

Yup, that's true. Of course, the one thing many people do wrong is clean the K&N air filters too often. They actually filter better once they are dirty. Oh, and oiled filters are a real bad idea for MAF(mass air flow) systems. The oil condensates on the mass air sensor and can make it read wrong or worse yet, ruin it.

its threads like this that make me wonder, why not use the OE mopar parts?

Genuine Mopar oil filters are not the best filters out there. Yes, they are better than fram, but IMHO Wix is way better. There is also the issue of convenience by going to the local parts house.

Fram makes a nice filter for the TJ, it has a foam prefilter attached to the paper filter. One of these days I'm going to swap filter boxes off a TJ on to my XJ so I can use one. I just need to run into someone who has done a conversion and wants to get rid of the stock setup. Plus I get that nifty horn thingy on it... :D :D :D

They have them at wal-mart. Most people have a wal-mart near them. Also, they are only like 5 bucks there. They also sell OEM motorcrapft for the ford folks shich I would run in the wifes Focus but they don't carry it for that so I use the super-trash or whatever brand that costs like $250 LOL.
