10 years ago, there was a shop near where 59 meets the Sam Houston that worked on nothing but DeLoreans. At least a dozen parked outside every day.

I took the picture above at the Gilmore auto museum in Hickory Corners, MI.

I noticed that after I took the picture that the front clip on the Delorean was plastic and not stainless.
I wonder if they all came that way?
Anyone know?

It's been a few months since I've seen one up close, but I believe that both the front and rear clips were plastic. There's one I occasionally see around here near where we're going for lunch today; if it's there, I'll check it out.

Typical: on the day I'm actually looking for it, there's no sign of it :D If I see it around, I'll verify that they were in fact plastic - I'm pretty sure that they were, but...

99% sure they are, i see them pretty often here in detroit suburbs, lots of automotive enthusiasts and auto execs with a fleet of rides etc. I see them ALLOT in the summer.

If they dont all have the plastic front clip darn near most of them do, maybe an early in the model run swap to save money. Stamping stainless i learned is not easy. One of my customers his old man made the family fortune in figureing out how to stamp stainless kitchen sinks. Before him no one could do it. So in my ignorant non stamping industry mind, it must not be cheap, and a sink seems way easier than all those bends and lines and headlight surrounds etc.

I been admirer of them since i was a wee kid when back to the future came out. I only wish they had a nicer engine in them, not sure how much of the value i would ruin by dropping in a LS1 .... but you can get deloreans pretty cheap.:guitar:

That lifted one is a disgrace.:bawl:

Yes the front clip is plastic, I know since I have owned one. We had a 1982 Delorean with under 15,000 miles on it. Man was that car a blast to drive. No matter where you went, nothing but gawking and staring at it since most people have never seen one in real life. You would see people getting all giddy and wide eyes when you would open the gull wing doors.:D Would go to the gas station and people come out of the woodwork to look at it, sit in it, etc. I loved that car, though it was 4 years older than I am. Needless to say I miss the car, but it had to go since my father passed and it never got driven much. But I got some jeep money out if it, so it wasn't too bad. Still miss it though

any one old enough to verify this from wikipidia

"The De Lorean Motor Company went bankrupt in late 1982 following John De Lorean's arrest in October of that year. He was later found not guilty, but it was too late for the DMC-12. Approximately 100 partially assembled DMC's on the production line were completed by Consolidated International (now known as Big Lots)."

Big lots the retailer? to funny.

good read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Lorean_DMC-12
